Em, previously known as “the Mother one” bravely shares her first podcast. She talks about what it’s like to be a mother who is a survivor. The Christmas holiday is mentioned in reference to timing, but not at all discussed. DHS (DCF / family services) is mentioned in reference to our experience recently, as well as foster care, but no detailed memories or experiences are discussed in depth. Em also shares her experience hearing the others, and how distressing this has been. Em does disclose some memories regarding her mother, including some references to abuse. Rape is mentioned specifically, but without any detail or description. Suicide is also mentioned in reference, but without detail or description. The deaths of parents are mentioned in reference, but without detail or description. Em also discloses that she had several miscarriages, but without graphic detail or description. She also shares that she and the husband fostered, and the hard work and grief that involved. She expresses how hard parenting is anyway, and what that’s like as a survivor with her own attachment issues, much less dissociation. Em then tells what’s it has been like to be the mother of a medically fragile child and special needs children, and how that has overwhelmed her. This episode is highly emotional and needs a heavy trigger warning for that more than its difficult content.
