Bas Tops is head of the diagnostic lab and member of biobank data access committee, besides that he is member scientific advisory board of Foundation StopBraintumors.org

Tops joined the Princess Máxima Center part-time in May 2016 and was initially tasked to develop a vision for the diagnostic laboratory in the new Princess Máxima Center. He subsequently joined the Center full-time and is now responsible for execution of the plan as head of the diagnostics laboratory. One of his main challenges is to ‘integrate’ research and diagnostics by implementing ‘research’ techniques/findings into a diagnostic setting and thereby improving (precision) diagnostics. Since opening in 2018 the lab has introduced WES and WTS as routine diagnostic tests and facilitates WGS in a research setting.
