More of God, Less of Me? (John 3:30 & Matthew 16:24)
More of God and less of me? Die to self? Deny self? Must I decrease and God increase? No! The New Testament writers tell us that you have already died to your old self. You are no longer in Adam. You are a new creation in Christ. Jesus killed off the old self (sin nature) and made you into a new self. That's why the apostle Paul says to count yourself dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus!
John 3:30... He must increase, but I must decrease.
Matthew 16:24... Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.
Romans 6:3-7... 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
Galatians 2:20... 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
Colossians 2:11-13... Your whole self, ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ.
