From Music Production to Orchestral Composition
Meet musician and composer Andreas Poupazis, who studied music at the University of Sunderland, and hear the journey behind his piece of music, “Wearmouth’s Stories” - inspired by the Wearmouth Bridge - its ties to shipbuilding, how it connects people, and how it's endured throughout history.
Andreas composed this piece as the winning entry to a competition celebrating 18 years of the Sunderland Symphony Orchestra. Supported by Arts Council England, their project “Coming of Age” invited new, emerging composers, like Andreas, to submit their compositions - and was performed at ‘Proms at the Point’ in Sunderland.
Poupazis is also a David Puttnam Scholar, having worked as music composer alongside various other film production students on a film about an asylum seeker living in Sunderland - which we discuss in detail.
