Shane Stacey of Clarity House joins Derek Sanford and Danielle Hartland to talk about leadership development in the church, how Jesus raised up leaders, and the church we hope to see: one that raises its own. \nPlus: the Christmas Eve idea Danielle pitched fifteen years ago that froze the whole room, and that we've done every year since. \nDerek starts with the history. Jesus appointed the twelve \"so that they might be with him\" before he ever sent them out. The early church passed leadership hand to hand, from John to Polycarp to Irenaeus. About ten men from Augustine's household became bishops. Methodist circuit riders trained young preachers on horseback and grew from 2.5 percent of American church members to 34 percent by 1850. Then leadership training moved back into the classroom, and the church borrowed the pipeline from business. \n \nShane names where that's left us: more leadership content than ever, and leaders still at the top of every church's list of needs. He walks through what apprenticeship requires (proximity, practice, productive failure, personalized feedback and progressive responsibility), why most of what we call training is really orientation, and why the best future leaders are probably already sitting in your congregation. \nThis week's experiment: Before Sunday, pick one meeting or task already on your calendar, invite one person to come with you, and spend five minutes afterward asking what they noticed. \nShow notes, resources and the full transcript: https://dereksanford.com/church-leadership-development/ \nClarity House: https://clarityhouse.us \nGet The Ordinary Altar, Derek's weekly newsletter: https://dereksanford.com","thumbnail_url":"https://img.transistorcdn.com/JL_9L6bkeNvVjjk1xHgBMuB4JZQuXAcirNatn_2xgkQ/rs:fill:0:0:1/w:400/h:400/q:60/mb:500000/aHR0cHM6Ly9pbWct/dXBsb2FkLXByb2R1/Y3Rpb24udHJhbnNp/c3Rvci5mbS83MWQ3/NmM3MTlmNmFjZWEw/ZGJmZTY4MTI2MDY3/Y2Q5Ni5wbmc.webp","thumbnail_width":300,"thumbnail_height":300}
