The co-founder of Simply Schedule Appointments explains why he moved his own sites off WordPress, what AI is making possible, and why the next wave of websites may look less like traditional CMS builds and more like intelligent static experiences. Nathan has spent years inside the WordPress ecosystem—from agency work and plugins used on tens of thousands of sites to selling a SaaS company to Pantheon. Now he’s building Blink Pages, a managed Astro-based editor for consultants, agencies, founders, and marketers who want the speed of AI without the chaos of vibe-coded sites. The conversation explores why AI is eroding the value of many small WordPress utility plugins, how static site workflows can improve version control and access control, and why agencies may replace maintenance retainers with higher-value services focused on SEO and business outcomes. Matt and Nathan also tackle what agency owners can offer when AI can build a site in minutes: stop selling drudgery and start selling outcomes, structure, and systems that keep AI from wrecking the site. It’s a practical look at where WordPress still wins, where it’s getting outpaced, and how agencies can adapt.\n\nYou can catch the entire interview over on our WP Minute+ channel.
