Pastor Randy summarizes the entire book and leaves us with two critical questions.\nWHAT GALATIANS IS ABOUT:\nThe problem: False teachers said you must become Jewish to be a Christian. You need works PLUS faith.\nPaul's solution: The gospel comes directly from God. Christ's sacrifice alone is enough. Period.\nWHAT WE'RE SET FREE FROM:\nFreedom from the law\nFreedom from your past (God cares what you are, not what you were)\nFreedom from sin\nFreedom from legalism (the false belief that you must do something to earn salvation)\nWHAT WE'RE SET FREE TO:\nFree to belong to a new family (the church—both Jews and Gentiles equally)\nFree to submit to the Spirit\nFree to submit to each other (accountability and community)\nTHE BIBLICAL PROOF:\nPaul uses Abraham to show the gospel is in the Old Testament itself:\nAbraham BELIEVED God. Genesis 15: God promised descendants as numerous as the stars. Abraham believed, and it was counted to him as righteousness.\nThen Abraham failed—he tried to help God out by having a child with Hagar (Genesis 16). Ishmael represented works/human effort. Isaac represented faith/God's promise.\nThe point: Faith alone. Not faith + works.\nAT THE FOOT OF THE CROSS:\nThe ground is level. No preference for Jew or Gentile, male or female, slave or free. Everyone has the same access to salvation through faith in Christ.\nTWO CRITICAL QUESTIONS FOR TODAY:\nQuestion 1: What do you need to nail to the cross?\nSpecifically: self-gratification, self-worship, self-promotion, forcing your opinions/way on others.\nPaul says crucify your self-centeredness. That's the way of the world. You'll have to do it EVERY DAY.\nQuestion 2: What does the Spirit need to incorporate into your life?\nSpecifically: loving God, loving neighbors, finding God's purpose, finding God's timing, showing mercy, staying true to the end, giving God control.\nTHE BOTTOM LINE:\nWe're not only set free FROM things. We're set free FOR things.\nDon't go back to slavery...","thumbnail_url":"https://img.transistorcdn.com/QeSOhOM9pdl7ie6YwFiWKrFHSz-rrRbE1NzVv7jCKNA/rs:fill:0:0:1/w:400/h:400/q:60/mb:500000/aHR0cHM6Ly9pbWct/dXBsb2FkLXByb2R1/Y3Rpb24udHJhbnNp/c3Rvci5mbS9zaG93/LzIwMDk2LzE2MTc4/MDY0ODctYXJ0d29y/ay5qcGc.webp","thumbnail_width":300,"thumbnail_height":300}
