Born in 1989 to a family originally from Jaffa and raised in Ramallah, Emile’s work is rooted in magical realism — poetic, image-driven storytelling carried by political urgency.\nASHTAR was founded in 1991 by Iman Aoun and Edward Muallem as the first theatre-training organisation for young people in Palestine, and became the Middle East hub for the Theatre of the Oppressed. It is the home of The Gaza Monologues — the project in which young people in Gaza turned their own testimonies into theatre performed around the world, from marginalised Palestinian communities to the floor of the UN.\nEmile’s recent work includes the monodrama 2077: Who Wants to Survive? (Jury Award, Cairo International Monodrama Festival, 2023) and, as director, Guernica Gaza: Visions from the Center of the Earth, written by Naomi Wallace and Ismail Khalidi. In this conversation, we discuss theatre that refuses to reduce Palestinians to victims, the sea his family was exiled from, healing without forgetting, and the long line of Palestinian storytellers the occupation has tried to silence.\n🔔 Subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications so you don't miss any episodes.\n📢 Support independent media production: https://www.dontskiphumanity.com/support-en\n📲 Follow us on social media: @dontskiphumanity\n📺 YALLA delves into the Palestinian struggle: challenging dominant narratives, making silenced voices heard, and keeping resistance alive.
