A thief came intending to steal, but instead saved the king’s life. In gratitude, the king sent him ten gold coins as a gift, yet also fined him ten silver coins for coming with the intent to steal. Curious, the treasurer asked the thief: “Why did you abandon theft and choose to save the king’s life?” The thief replied: “To protect another’s life is the foremost duty of every human being.
