Dr. Burlew grew up in San Antonio, Texas. She is a graduate of Amherst College, earning her degree in Biology magna cum laude. She attended medical school at UT Southwestern Medical School, where she was ranked 1st in her class and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. She completed her general surgery residency and Surgical Critical Care fellowship at the University of Colorado. At DHMC she is the Associate Chief of the Department of Surgery and the Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
