Yet, the journey of faith is rarely without human stumbling. We examine Abram's descent into Egypt, the compromises born of fear, and how God intervened to protect His covenant promise despite Abram's fleshly mistakes.\nThe heart of this study centers on the extraordinary covenant ceremony in Genesis 15. In ancient near-eastern covenant traditions, both parties would walk between the halves of slaughtered animals, sealing the oath that whoever broke the covenant would suffer the fate of the slain beasts. But when the covenant was cut between God and Abram, the Lord placed Abram into a deep sleep and walked the path alone as a smoking furnace and a burning lamp. \nBy passing through the pieces alone, God took the ultimate penalty of covenant-breaking entirely upon Himself. Connecting Genesis 15 directly to Deuteronomy 21:22–23, Galatians 3:10–14, and 1 Peter 2:24, we see Christ fulfilling this ancient sign: becoming a curse on the tree so that the blessing of Abraham might come to all through faith.\n### Key Passages Studied:\n* **Genesis 12:1–4, 7, 10–20** – The call of Abram, immediate faith, and the detour into Egypt.\n* **Hebrews 11:8–13** – Abram and Sarai's inclusion in the Hall of Faith as pilgrims and strangers.\n* **Genesis 13:1–14** – The separation of Abram and Lot; the peril of choosing by physical sight.\n* **Genesis 15:1–6** – God as our shield and exceeding great reward; faith counted as righteousness.\n* **Genesis 15:7–17** – The unilateral blood covenant ceremony; the smoking furnace and burning lamp.\n*...","thumbnail_url":"https://img.transistorcdn.com/08jMwOubulKebW2QKLlh3Kvxe0FUg1Iq1y9IN1gtles/rs:fill:0:0:1/w:400/h:400/q:60/mb:500000/aHR0cHM6Ly9pbWct/dXBsb2FkLXByb2R1/Y3Rpb24udHJhbnNp/c3Rvci5mbS8xNmYx/NzJiZjE4YzNhZGUw/NjM3NDcwNmU0NjAw/YTgxNS5qcGc.webp","thumbnail_width":300,"thumbnail_height":300}
