More Bike Lanes for Edmonton

Exciting news for bike commuters! Councillor Ashley Salvador introduced a motion asking Administration to look at options to move up the completion of routes in the Edmonton area to 2026, citing cycling as a viable mode of transportation that can reduce the cost of living for Edmontonians, improve public health, and achieve ambitious emissions reductions targets

The motion was passed unanimously by the five voting members of the Urban Development Committee, and as a result, Edmonton is on a path to expand and enhance up to 678 kilometres of multi-use trails over the next 10 years.

The ask is for Administration to consider options to extend the network of trails to south-central, west-central and east-central neighbourhoods.

Council began discussing the priorities at a Feb. 15 meeting, ahead of the new four-year budget cycle that starts in the fall.
