देवदर्शनाय योग्यता

कदाचित् कश्चन राजा 'ईश्वरः कुत्र अस्ति' इत्यस्य प्रश्नस्य उत्तरं मासाभ्यन्तरे दातव्यम् इति सभायाम् आदिशति। चिन्ताक्रान्तेन मन्त्रिणा कश्चित् तीक्ष्णमतिः उत्तरं जानन् बालकः प्राप्तः । अनन्तरदिने राजस्थाने बालकः दर्शयति यत् कथं केवलेन दुग्धस्य आलोडनेन नवनीतं न भवति । आदौ क्षीरेण दधि करणीयम्, अनन्तरं दध्नः मथनात् नवनीतं प्राप्यते । तद्वदेव देवविषये अपि भक्तिं विना, त्यागतपस्यादिकं विना च भगवान् न् दृश्यते । तस्य दर्शनाय काचित् योग्यता सम्पादनीया इति । एतत् श्रुत्वा सुन्तुष्टः राजा तस्मै सहस्रं सुवर्णनाणकानि दत्तवान् ।

Once, a king asked the question, "Where is God?" and said he needed the answer within a month. The worried minister, one day, met a smart boy who claimed he knew the answer. The next day, the boy showed that just churning milk does not produce butter. First, the milk must become curd, and then by churning the curd, butter is made. Similarly, without devotion, one cannot see God. The king, pleased with the answer, gave the boy a thousand coins.
