उपकारः तु स्वभावः

केनचित् कृषिकेन कश्चन सज्जनः चक्रावाततः रक्षितः । प्राणापायमपि अविगणय्य रक्षणरूपम् उपकारं कृतवतः कृषिकस्य परोपकारस्वभावं दृष्ट्वा सः सज्जनः पारितोषिकं दातुम् इच्छति । 'अपाये स्थितवतः रक्षणं मानवधर्मः । तत् कर्तव्यबुद्ध्या मया कृतं, न तु पारितोषिकेच्छया' इति उक्त्वा पारितोषिकं निराकरोति सः कृषकः । एतादृशानां जनानां कारणात् एव लोके वृष्ट्यादयः भवन्ति इति मनसि एव चिन्तयति सः सज्जनः ।
