When do you feel so at ease that you stop thinking about what's to come next and are fully immersed in exactly what you're doing in that moment? It can be difficult to tap into this state of presence while we are learning a craft, but over time we become more experienced to the point where we can let go of the preoccupation of "doing it right" because we have practiced it enough times to trust that we know what's next.
You can't bring up "flow" without referencing, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, who wrote Flow a book dissecting this idea of effortless and enjoyable execution of a skillset after honing your craft. It's usually found in doing something that challenges you enough to keep your attention, while easy enough that you are not overanalyzing each move you make.
While reading Ikigai, The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life, by Hector Garcia, I was reminded of the idea of flow while pursuing you purpose. Finding a skill set that you're passionate about, you enjoy and are pretty good at aids you in finding a profession or career that also allows you to earn an income and give back to your community. This promotes good health, a sense of fulfillment and ultimately to a longer happier life.
Listen in for a few exercises on how to determine where you find flow within your life and how you can incorporate those passions while you discover your Ikigai.
