Chill Country Report

Sam Hodgson is an up-and-coming musician and songwriter based in Austin, Texas. You can find Sam's music on all streaming platforms under his own name as well as his folk duo, Lemongrass, with band member Taylor Rea.

Chris and I met Sam several years ago when he came by our studio to record some songs for our music series, Chill Country Sessions. His session transitioned into a job interview and he ended up working for Chill Country for a brief period before committing to his music full-time.

Sam's journey navigating the music business started in high school with a publishing deal from BMG that ended with some difficult but valuable lessons. Most recently, Sam has written several mega viral political protest songs that have racked up 12+ million views across Instagram and TikTok. His viral success has lead to a bombardment of attention from the music industry, and this time he is much more prepared to navigate it.

At the end of our discussion, Sam performs one of his viral political protest song titled "Texas Justice."
