For five hundred years, Baghdad was the most important city on Earth — and the House of Wisdom was why.
In the 9th century, the Abbasid caliphs set out to gather all of human knowledge in one place. Scholars combed the known world for manuscripts, the finest translators were paid their weight in gold, and within about a century and a half nearly the entire surviving body of Greek science and philosophy had been rendered into Arabic. But the scholars of Baghdad were never mere caretakers — from the start, they were correcting the Greeks and building something new.
Episode 2 tells the story of Bayt al-Hikmah — the caliph al-Ma'mun, the translator Hunayn ibn Ishaq, the Banu Musa brothers, and the moment a civilization chose knowledge as the deepest kind of power.

What is Reasoning with Mustapha?
Reasoning with Mustapha is a space for honest conversations about the things that actually matter — history, faith, culture, science, and the personal experiences that don't always make it into the mainstream conversation. Hosted by Mustapha, who grew up in Morocco and has spent years in the Bay Area — a journey between cultures that sparked a deep curiosity about people and the questions that don't have clear-cut answers. No claims to having it all figured out. Just genuine curiosity, one conversation at a time.
