Real Pod Wednesdays

We discuss what went wrong in Ohio State's blowout loss to Alabama, whether Kerry Coombs can get the defense back on track and our thoughts on the 2020 season as a whole.

Show Notes

The national championship game didn't go well for Ohio State, but there are still plenty of positives we can take away from the 2020 season.

Ohio State was blown out by Alabama, 52-24, in Monday night's national title game, and we start by discussing our takeaways from the Buckeyes' disappointing performance against the Crimson Tide. Of course, much of that discussion centers around their struggles on pass defense – naturally leading to additional discussion about what changes Ryan Day and Kerry Coombs might need to make in 2021 to get the defense back on track – though Colin argues that the Buckeyes' subpar performance on offense was actually the biggest reason why they lost to Alabama.

At the 30-minute mark, we pivot to a more positive conversation by talking about the impact Justin Fields made on the program during his two years as Ohio State's starting quarterback. Then, we review the 2020 season as a whole and discuss why we think the season should still be considered a success (36:00) and name our offensive MVPs (other than Fields), defensive MVPs and biggest surprise players for the season (46:12).

We also answer your questions about potential offseason staff changes, Shaun Wade's season and NFL future and more.
