We are celebrating Black History Month here at the FilmFumblers, and we're starting with (an A24 film of course) Moonlight! This one gets all kinds of deep, so dive in will ya?
Show Notes
Barry Jenkins' Moonlight is a film that explores so many layers of society that it can be almost overwhelming. It touches on a lot of deep subjects: the cost of having to hide your true self and becoming your own façade, the reality of survival in conditions of poverty and absent opportunity, the difficulties of having to suppress vulnerabilities and the want to be wanted, while having to amplify a sense of masculinity that you may not even believe in. This is an art film that is beautifully made, that tells a story with subjects that are rarely discussed, and both elevates and cares for them in a way that will definitely leave an impact on you.
