Welcome back to the St Mary’s Primary School podcast! Today, we’re thrilled to introduce someone very special who will be joining our community in 2026. Please join us in welcoming Grant Douglas, our new Year 5 teacher.
Grant’s journey into education is anything but ordinary. Before stepping into the classroom, he built a rich and diverse career across several industries, developing skills in leadership, communication, problem-solving and working with people from all walks of life. Each chapter of his professional story has shaped his approach to teaching—bringing a grounded, real-world perspective that he now channels into inspiring young learners.
With a young family of his own and a strong personal connection to the Bayside area, Grant is already invested in the kind of community St Mary’s represents. His passion for helping others grow, combined with his warm, down-to-earth nature, makes him a perfect fit for our school culture.
In this episode, you’ll hear more about Grant’s transition into education, what he’s most excited about for Year 5 in 2026, and how his life experiences are shaping the teacher he is today.
Please join us in welcoming Grant Douglas to St Mary’s—our students, staff, and families are in for something special.

St. Mary’s is a welcoming community that provides a learning environment focused on developing learning confidence, independence and a positive sense of self in each student.
We place a strong emphasis on respect for diversity and individuality and on developing self-confident, compassionate students who are supported to form strong relationships.
We place strong, positive relationships at the heart of all we do and recognise that social-emotional learning is the key to academic success. We recognise and value parents as the first educators of their children and promote productive and open parent-school partnerships.
