Solo de Facto

When running your own solo law practice, there will be so many different options for software that you can use in the office that it might seem intimidating. Fear no more, we have the perfect guest for you!

Today’s episode features Andrew Legrand. Andrew is an attorney and founder of the business law firm Spera Law Group. After graduating from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law in 2011, he decided he wouldn’t be happy in a traditional law office and set about to change that! He’s all about empowering business owners and he’s here to help businesses find the best software for their office at a reasonable price.

Takeaways

Rather than looking into a specific piece of software you might have heard a lot about, try thinking of the problem you want that software to solve.
Keep in mind your usable price. A lot of software has a lot of different price points, so think about what is important to you and what is within your budget.
Consider software that isn’t specifically made with lawyers in mind, it might be more beneficial.
Sometimes the marketing for the feature of a product isn’t exactly what it is on the back end, so make sure to do your diligence so you aren’t switching products within a few months.
Make a spreadsheet that keeps track of different ways of looking at products, ie, things that you need, things that you want, etc.

Quote of the show

1:16 “I’m from New Orleans and in 2005 this big storm named Katrina hit. And going to law school seemed like a good way to move back home and not commit to a career. But as I started going through law school I realized that one way that I can use my law degree to help my hometown rebuild is by helping business owners. By helping business owners create jobs and grow the economy and create opportunity.”
