00:02:26.100 --> 00:02:29.100 But also when I talk to people, I find that this is a topic, 00:02:29.240 --> 00:02:32.780 this is a spiritual discipline that's very intimidating for people. 00:02:33.540 --> 00:02:37.300 And so what we wanted to do this morning is not only come together as a church 00:02:37.300 --> 00:02:39.860 and lift up the name of the Lord together 00:02:39.860 --> 00:02:44.160 and be in prayer strategically around some specific topics, 00:02:44.720 --> 00:02:50.400 but we also wanted to do it as a family so that we can help each other and encourage each other. 00:02:51.060 --> 00:02:54.760 And so as you look at your prayer guide, I hope that that's a tool that you can use today, 00:02:54.880 --> 00:02:58.400 but I hope it can be a tool that you can take have six different topics of prayer that we're going to go through. 00:03:07.140 --> 00:03:10.460 We're going to spend, you're going to spend quietly as I lead you through this, 00:03:10.460 --> 00:03:17.560 you're going to spend time to about two minutes in quiet prayer between you and the Lord. 00:03:18.140 --> 00:03:25.420 And then we'll come back together for prayer corporately together that I'll lead at the end of each one of these topics. 00:03:26.080 --> 00:03:30.640 But this past week, as I was studying about prayer, I came through and we know that prayer is important, 00:03:31.180 --> 00:03:35.920 but I didn't know until this week specifically some of the details that the scripture gives us 00:03:35.920 --> 00:03:39.020 of the certainty of how important it is and how much God wants us to pray. 00:03:39.020 --> 00:03:45.220 I didn't know until this past week that there are over 650 prayers listed in the Bible. 00:03:46.180 --> 00:03:49.260 650 recorded prayers in scripture. 00:03:49.960 --> 00:03:56.600 And then also in scripture are 450 recorded answers to prayer. 00:03:56.820 --> 00:03:58.600 Now I'm going to go ahead and just sidebar real quick. 00:03:58.700 --> 00:04:01.800 That's something that the Lord laid on my heart that as I journal throughout the year, 00:04:01.960 --> 00:04:04.760 I'm really good at journaling my prayer request. 00:04:04.760 --> 00:04:11.840 I'm really bad about taking note and journaling how God answers and when God answers those prayer requests. 00:04:12.120 --> 00:04:19.020 But not only do we see 650 prayers listed in the Bible, but we see 450 recorded answers to prayer. 00:04:19.720 --> 00:04:26.200 The first time prayer is mentioned in the Bible is found in Genesis chapter 4 verse 26. 00:04:26.920 --> 00:04:34.320 The Bible records Jesus praying at least 25 different times in his earthly ministry. 00:04:34.640 --> 00:04:42.860 And Paul who writes most of where we gain a lot of our theological study and theological disciplines from in his writings. 00:04:43.080 --> 00:04:49.740 He was 41 times that Paul mentions and commands that we pray. 00:04:49.740 --> 00:04:55.360 Now that's not just 41 times that we're commanded in all scripture, but 41 times that Paul commands it. 00:04:56.520 --> 00:04:57.620 And we're all a little different. 00:04:58.600 --> 00:05:00.520 And we all like to pray differently. 00:05:01.340 --> 00:05:05.600 And prayer can and should be done differently for each of us. 00:05:05.660 --> 00:05:10.140 But what it shows here in scripture is that how we calls us to pray with one's face pointed toward the ground. 00:05:29.840 --> 00:05:33.900 And the Bible calls us to pray with one's hands lifted up. 00:05:34.420 --> 00:05:37.540 And so what do I come And I will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high. 00:06:46.020 --> 00:06:49.240 And so in just a moment we're going to go into a time of prayer together. 00:06:49.480 --> 00:06:53.200 And Lord, we thank you for the many blessings that you bestowed upon us and that you so freely gave to us, Lord, and we thank you for both the challenges and the victories that we experienced. Amen. 00:11:17.880 --> 00:11:22.880 The next prayer I know we're going to have today is our prayer for the lost. 00:11:22.880 --> 00:11:31.880 I know a lot of you carry a close friend, relative, an acquaintance, maybe even a co-worker who you know is far from the Lord. 00:11:31.880 --> 00:11:38.880 And this morning what I would like for us to do is to spend some time in general praying for the lostness that's around us. 00:11:38.880 --> 00:11:43.880 As we see the brokenness in the world, the pain, the hurt, the suffering. 00:11:43.880 --> 00:11:49.880 We know that the reason for this is the sin that fills those and that sin that fills their hearts. 00:11:49.880 --> 00:11:52.880 And what they need above all else is Jesus. 00:11:52.880 --> 00:11:55.880 Paul was burdened for this as well. 00:11:55.880 --> 00:11:58.880 And it's why he writes about those whom he loves dearly. 00:11:58.880 --> 00:12:11.880 In Romans chapter 10, verse 1, he says, "Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved." 00:12:11.880 --> 00:12:25.880 You know, as we pray for the lost, maybe we begin for a prayer for ourself that God would give us the heart of Paul, that God would give us his heart to be burdened for those who are far from him. 00:12:25.880 --> 00:12:34.880 So I want to encourage you this morning to pray for those who God has placed in your life who do not have a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. 00:12:34.880 --> 00:12:44.880 Pray that God would give you the opportunity, the words, and the boldness to share about your relationship with Jesus with them. 00:12:44.880 --> 00:12:48.880 And then pray that God would give them an opportunity to hear the gospel. 00:12:48.880 --> 00:12:53.880 Maybe from you, maybe from another person, or maybe by an invitation to a church. 00:12:53.880 --> 00:13:04.880 But that this year, God would give that man, that woman, that child the opportunity to see, to hear, and to respond to the gospel of Jesus Lord, we look for opportunities to engage them in a conversation, to invite them to church or to our small group or just maybe across our dinner table where we can talk more with them about Christ. 00:16:47.300 --> 00:16:56.540 Lord, God, open our eyes to see those around us who are hurting and who are searching for many answers in many different ways. 00:16:57.540 --> 00:17:00.740 But the that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will and all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 00:18:06.260 --> 00:18:31.480 So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power and according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in life. 00:18:31.480 --> 00:18:35.760 And so as we take time to gather together, we want to lift each other up. the work of the Lord. 00:21:46.600 --> 00:21:49.600 And I thank you, God, that we get to be a part of that. 00:21:49.600 --> 00:21:54.600 Lord, I thank you that in all of the things that we're, where we could be, Lord, you've 00:21:54.600 --> 00:21:57.600 brought us here and make this place home. 00:21:57.600 --> 00:22:03.600 God, I pray that Willow Ridge and this coming year, more so than any year before, will be 00:22:03.600 --> 00:22:06.600 a light of hope, a beacon of the gospel to this community. 00:22:06.600 --> 00:22:11.600 I pray that men and women and children would come to faith in Christ, not because they 00:22:11.600 --> 00:22:16.600 were coerced into a set of beliefs, but because the Holy Spirit worked in their heart and drew 00:22:16.600 --> 00:22:21.600 them to you, Lord, and they were radically and deeply and permanently saved. 00:22:23.600 --> 00:22:27.600 And they now identify as sons and daughters of the living God. 00:22:27.600 --> 00:22:30.600 Lord, I thank that he planted, Paul also asked prayer for a missionary, 00:22:50.600 --> 00:22:53.600 for himself being a missionary and a church planner. 00:22:53.600 --> 00:22:57.600 Look at his prayer request in opportunity to speak to not just our missionaries 00:23:22.600 --> 00:23:24.600 that we partner with, but any missionary. 00:23:25.600 --> 00:23:26.600 Because this is their heart. 00:23:27.600 --> 00:23:32.600 That God would give them opportunities wherever he has placed them to be able to proclaim the gospel. 00:23:33.600 --> 00:23:39.600 And so we're going to spend some time lifting up these men and women and families that are scattered all over this world. 00:23:39.600 --> 00:23:48.600 On here we have listed our missionaries that we partner with, but I don't also want us to forget the organizations that we partner with as well. 00:23:49.600 --> 00:24:01.600 Black Mountain Children's Home, who has so many different men and women who are ministering to the broken and the hurting of those kids who were found in the western mountains of North Carolina. 00:24:02.600 --> 00:24:09.600 But also, as we're a Southern Baptist Church, to pray for our international missionaries that are all over this world, 00:24:09.600 --> 00:24:18.600 ministering to and sharing the gospel in some of the most hard reach places where you could lose your life for proclaiming the gospel of Christ. 00:24:19.600 --> 00:24:20.600 And they do it faithfully. 00:24:21.600 --> 00:24:31.600 We pray for our North American Mission Board missionaries, many of them church planners, planning churches in difficult-to-reach areas like the Stockmans in Salt Lake City, Utah. 00:24:32.600 --> 00:24:35.600 Where Christianity there is at the single percentage. 00:24:35.600 --> 00:24:37.600 It's not a part of the culture. 00:24:37.600 --> 00:24:38.600 It's not a part of the norm. 00:24:38.600 --> 00:24:41.600 But we pray for them and their faithfulness. 00:24:41.600 --> 00:24:45.600 So as we take this time in prayer, go before the Lord. 00:24:45.600 --> 00:24:51.600 Pray that God would bless their ministries, bless their families, bless their marriages, and bless them personally. 00:24:51.600 --> 00:24:57.600 But also pray that God would send them the workers they need into the harvest which God is preparing. 00:24:57.600 --> 00:25:00.600 Would you bow your heads as we go before the Lord in --> 00:26:27.600 Lord, while we are all called to take the gospel where we are, Lord, there are those who have been called out and sent to places far from their home, to live amongst a people who are different than them. 00:26:27.600 --> 00:26:34.600 Lord, who are to take on a special calling in their life, Lord, one that we know as missionaries. 00:26:34.600 --> 00:26:54.600 Lord, and while on a piece of paper in front of us is a short list of individuals and families and organizations, Lord, we know that you're using many different denominations, many different missionaries, many different families all over this world to carry the hope of the gospel of Christ. 00:26:54.600 --> 00:27:01.600 Lord, I pray for all of them as they go, Lord, that they would be encouraged. 00:27:01.600 --> 00:27:07.600 Lord, the number may not be where they would like it to be. 00:27:07.600 --> 00:27:14.600 The threat that they receive might have put a sense of unsettledness in their spirit. 00:27:14.600 --> 00:27:21.600 Lord, the news they got this morning might not have been the news that they were hoping for. 00:27:21.600 --> 00:27:27.600 But, God, they don't cling to any of those things as their hope, or they cling to you. 00:27:27.600 --> 00:27:32.600 Lord, I ask that you would bless them and bless their ministries and their families. 00:27:32.600 --> 00:27:36.600 Lord, strengthen their marriage, strengthen their relationship with their kids. 00:27:36.600 --> 00:27:38.600 Lord, strengthen them personally in their walk with you. 00:27:38.600 --> 00:27:43.600 And, God, I pray that you would send more workers to them. 00:27:43.600 --> 00:27:53.600 Lord, maybe an individual or a family here who feels called to go maybe for a week, maybe for a year, maybe for their lifetime. 00:27:53.600 --> 00:28:00.600 To go to be obedient, to take the gospel, maybe where it's never been proclaimed before. 00:28:00.600 --> 00:28:05.600 And we'll give you all the praise and honor and glory. 00:28:05.600 --> 00:28:07.600 And it's in Jesus' name we pray. 00:28:07.600 --> 00:28:08.600 Amen. 00:28:08.600 --> 00:28:09.600 Amen. 00:28:09.600 --> 00:28:22.600 Next, we're going to go into a time of prayer for our schools, but also our elected and local, state, and national leaders. 00:28:22.600 --> 00:28:28.600 I know these topics can oftentimes be ones that are controversial. 00:28:28.600 --> 00:28:30.600 Of who do we like or who do we not like? 00:28:30.600 --> 00:28:31.600 Who do we agree with? 00:28:31.600 --> 00:28:33.600 Who do we not agree with? 00:28:33.600 --> 00:28:38.600 But God's word calls us to lift them up and to pray for them. 00:28:38.600 --> 00:28:41.600 1 Timothy 2:1-4. 00:28:41.600 --> 00:28:51.600 It says, "First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people. 00:28:51.600 --> 00:29:02.600 For kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 00:29:02.600 --> 00:29:16.600 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." 00:29:16.600 --> 00:29:34.600 This might need to be a verse that we read every day before we send an email of complaint, before we make a Facebook post out of anger, that we begin by prayer for those. 00:29:34.600 --> 00:29:40.600 So I want to encourage you to pray for our local, for our state, and for our national elected leaders. 00:29:40.600 --> 00:29:45.600 Ask God that they would seek to glorify Him as they lead in their office. 00:29:45.600 --> 00:29:49.600 Pray for our schools and our leaders in our schools. 00:29:49.600 --> 00:29:57.600 Pray that our students would be safe and given an opportunity to learn and grow as contributors in our community. 00:29:57.600 --> 00:30:00.600 And pray for unity amongst people. 00:30:00.600 --> 00:30:05.600 It's God to unify and bring together all, even those who have sought to divide. 00:30:05.600 --> 00:30:07.600 Would you go before the Lord in prayer? 00:30:07.600 --> 00:30:08.600 Let's pray for our identity is found in Christ, in Christ alone, 00:31:55.600 --> 00:31:59.600 Lord, I pray for their boldness to lead in the power 00:31:59.600 --> 00:32:01.600 and the truth of the gospel, 00:32:01.600 --> 00:32:05.600 whether it's at a national, state, or local level. 00:32:05.600 --> 00:32:07.600 Lord, for those who do not know you, 00:32:07.600 --> 00:32:09.600 I pray that there's an individual, 00:32:09.600 --> 00:32:11.600 whether it serves on their team 00:32:11.600 --> 00:32:15.600 or maybe even a person that they'll encounter at a coffee shop, 00:32:15.600 --> 00:32:20.600 that would share with them the hope of Jesus Christ. 00:32:20.600 --> 00:32:30.600 And God, I pray that their hearts would be opened and respond to your grace and your mercy. 00:32:30.600 --> 00:32:38.600 Lord, I pray for our schools, for our students, for our teachers, for our leaders. 00:32:38.600 --> 00:32:44.600 I pray for our homeschoolers, those who are in private school, Lord, and those who are in public school. 00:32:44.600 --> 00:32:49.600 Lord, I pray that this wonderful tool of education that you give us, 00:32:49.600 --> 00:32:53.600 Lord, where their minds can grow and they can learn 00:32:53.600 --> 00:32:57.600 and then they can go into society and be who you called them to be 00:32:57.600 --> 00:33:03.600 and do what you've called them to do, all for your name and all for your glory. 00:33:03.600 --> 00:33:06.600 Lord, strengthen our teachers. 00:33:06.600 --> 00:33:12.600 Give them the hope and the resolve and the reminder of what a blessing they are to these individuals. 00:33:12.600 --> 00:33:20.600 Lord, be with our leaders in these schools as they make decisions that oftentimes aren't popular, 00:33:20.600 --> 00:33:23.600 but, Lord, need to be the decisions that are made. 00:33:23.600 --> 00:33:27.600 Lord, may they be ones that glorify you. 00:33:27.600 --> 00:33:34.600 Lord, as a people, may we move away from the things that the world seeks to divide us 00:33:34.600 --> 00:33:39.600 and may we find unity in Christ and in Christ alone. 00:33:39.600 --> 00:33:42.600 And it's in Jesus' name we pray.
