यथा सूचितं तथैव कृतम्

कदाचित् ज्वरेण ग्रस्तः कश्चन मूर्खः पण्डितः वैद्यसमीपम् अगच्छत् । 'भवता लङ्घनं करणीयम्' इति वैद्यः उक्तवान् । मूर्खः पण्डितः गृहस्य पुरतः‌ स्थितायाः कुल्यायाः उल्लङ्घनम् अकरोत् । ज्वरः अधिकः जातः । पुनः सैन्धवलवणं सेवनीयम् इति वैद्यः अवदत् । कोषे तस्य अर्थः आसीत् अश्वमलम् इति । सः तम् असेवत । पुनः वैद्यः अवदत् कण्टकारिकषायः सेवनीयः इति । कोषे तस्य अर्थः पादरक्षा इति आसीत् । जीर्णया पादरक्षया कषायं सज्जीकृत्य अपिबत् । यदा वैद्यः सर्वं ज्ञातवान् तदा अवदत् 'अहो मूर्खता भवता! लङ्घनं नाम उपवासः, सैन्धवलवणं नाम लवणविशेषः, कण्टकारिः कश्चन मूलविशेषः' इति ।

Once, a foolish scholar suffering from fever visited a physician. The doctor advised him to undergo langhana. Misunderstanding the term, the scholar jumped over a nearby canal, worsening his condition. Later, the doctor recommended Saindhava lavana, but the scholar interpreted it as horse dung and consumed it. The physician then prescribed Kantakari kashaya, which the scholar misunderstood as worn-out footwear. He prepared a decoction using an old shoe and drank it. When the doctor learned of this, he exclaimed, ‘What foolishness! Langhana means fasting, Saindhava lavana is a special salt, and Kantakari is a medicinal root!’. This story highlights the dangers of ignorance and misinterpretation.
