Digital Marketing Made Simple with Jennie Lyon

How to attract your ideal customers with great copywriting and calls to action.

Show Notes

This week, I'll share tips on effective copywriting to deliver content that is genuinely engaging and gets your clients (or potential clients!) to take action. I'll be discussing copywriting across a few main sections, from copy types to style, and more:

Types of Copy for Digital Marketing
  • Lead Magnets: An enticing lead magnet—preferably with a free offering—is an essential starting point.
  • Email Campaigns, Nurture Sequences, and Newsletters: Recurring newsletters and nurture sequences keep customers engaged, and your brand and services in front of them.
  • Website and Landing Page Copy: On your website home page—and especially on landing pages—you want to maintain a focus when it comes to your copy. Too much text or unclear direction are signs of a poorly-conceived landing page.
  • Blog Posts: Well-written and thoughtful blog content are the bread and butter of website marketing and SEO boosting. Depending on your company, this can take multiple forms, from written blogs to podcasts to recurring videos.
Copywriting Style
In this section, I'll discuss what makes the difference between good copywriting and bad copywriting. While I can sum up the differences in two words—readability and relatability—there's a bit more to it!

Inspire People to Take Action!
Of course, you want your copy and marketing to encourage people to take action, but it's important not to write copy that only screams, "sales, sales, sales" all the time. The trick is to be upfront about your offerings and explain why you want a customer to take action without annoying them or turning them off. It's crucial to maintain a laser-like focus on a single Call to Action and write your copy with that in mind.

How to Deal with Writer's Block
It doesn't matter if you're a professional novelist, reporter, or marketer: Writer's block can strike at any time. Thankfully, I have several effective strategies for dealing with it, and one of the most helpful is to have copywriting templates on hand.

Finally, Know Your Ideal Customer Avatar
It's a common mistake for small business owners to cast as wide a net as possible to bring in more people. Unfortunately, this is not very effective, which is why it's essential to know your ICA (Ideal Customer Avatar)—who they are, what they like, respond to, and more—and tailor your messaging accordingly.
