Welcome to the next episode of Operation Steam Dream 2022 everyone! In this episode, I leave a few thoughts on the table about engine tech, and showcase a bit of progress on what I'm working with.
Show Notes
In this podcast, I go through several points for my RPG project that I'm aiming to deliver by the Roguelike Celebration 2022 happening in October 2022.
- Basic engine tech is up and running using C++ and SDL2
- I'm using an Ultima IV tileset that I've found online, but definitely won't be releasing this game using them
- I've got map tiles and a camera working, but am looking to figure out how to import levels created with either the Tiled editor or the Ogmo Editor
- Unity, Gamemaker and Godot are all PROVEN technologies for game delivery, however I'm not keen on spending all my available time on just learning the engine
- Yes, it does sound counter-intuitive but I've actually had quite a bit of success getting things together with C++
Tiled Editor is available at https://www.mapeditor.org/
Ogmo Editor is available at https://ogmo-editor-3.github.io/
