Hillcrest Baptist Church - Sermons

Jesus didn't come to make bad people good. He came to make dead people alive. Because of that, the Christian life demands an active response.

Pastor Zach gave us three challenges: Reorient your heart toward Christ and away from sin. Strip off the old self, sinful passions and pride block the fullness of Christ in your life. And clothe yourself in godliness; reflecting, resting, rejoicing, and running for your Savior every single day.

The Christian life is a daily decision to put off what no longer belongs to you and put on who Christ has called you to be.

Colossians 3:1-17

Jesus didn’t come to make bad people good; He came to make dead people alive.

He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose. - Jim Elliot

Flee sin
Confess sin
Repent of sin
Put to death sin
Resist temptation

Walk by the Spirit

2. We must strip off sinful passions & sinful pride, to experience the fullness of Christ.

3. We must clothe ourselves in Godliness.
a. We must put on spiritual clothes in which we accurately reflect our Savior (12-14)
b. We must put on spiritual clothes in which we can comfortably rest in our Savior (15)
c. We must put on spiritual clothes in which we can gratefully rejoice in our Savior (16)
