For he is the living God, enduring forever. 00:00:45.920 --> 00:00:55.160 His kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end. Chapters one through six deal with the historical, biblical account and record in the 00:01:56.320 --> 00:02:03.200 life of Daniel. And then chapter seven and moving forward, we'll focus on the prophetic section of 00:02:03.200 --> 00:02:08.520 the book of Daniel. So this morning, as we conclude chapter six, as we work all our way through this, 00:02:08.680 --> 00:02:14.780 last week we just got through the first four verses. We'll kind of conclude the part that we have of 00:02:14.780 --> 00:02:20.380 Daniel's life and then we'll jump next week and continue on with the prophetic section of the book 00:02:20.380 --> 00:02:25.540 of Daniel. And so I hope God is teaching you and working in you as much as God is doing in my life 00:02:25.540 --> 00:02:29.920 and we celebrate him for all he's done. But if you weren't here with us last week, I do want to bring 00:02:29.920 --> 00:02:35.440 you a little bit up to speed Daniel six verses one through four. So kind of give us the setting of 00:02:35.440 --> 00:02:41.400 what we're going to find here in this very popular story that so many of us has heard. And again, 00:02:41.520 --> 00:02:46.160 what we believe as we talk through these is if it's in the Bible, we do not believe that this is a 00:02:46.160 --> 00:02:50.840 made up story. We believe that this is a true story, that it actually happened, that this is from 00:02:50.840 --> 00:02:56.740 history and no archeological dig, nothing that archeologists have ever uncovered, have ever done 00:02:56.740 --> 00:03:02.740 anything to disprove the historical count of God's words. We can hold true that what is here is 00:03:02.740 --> 00:03:08.820 actually that. It is true. And so in Daniel six, one through four, the Mede and Persian empire has 00:03:08.820 --> 00:03:15.460 overtaken Babylon and Darius is now the king. And Daniel that we've seen from Daniel chapter one, just 00:03:15.460 --> 00:03:22.680 like he did in the Babylonian empire, has once again risen to leadership. So you've got these pagan kings 00:03:22.680 --> 00:03:29.880 choosing godly Daniel to help them and to assist them. And Daniel has risen to leadership. 00:03:30.680 --> 00:03:37.240 And he's a man of what we find in Daniel six continues to meet, to be a man of godly reputation 00:03:37.240 --> 00:03:44.840 and continuing to be a man of godly integrity to the point. This was the driving point home for us last week 00:03:44.840 --> 00:03:53.880 that even lost people around Daniel see the evidence of the work of God in the life of Daniel. 00:03:55.080 --> 00:03:59.720 But there's gonna be some conflict. And I think that's the part of us that we've got to come to grips 00:03:59.720 --> 00:04:06.840 with. If you're here and you're not a believer, not a follower of Jesus Christ, let me kind of bring 00:04:06.840 --> 00:04:13.880 you to make sure that you know a little bit about us as Christians. Becoming a follower of Jesus Christ 00:04:13.880 --> 00:04:21.000 does not make your life easy. Becoming a follower of Jesus Christ does not free you from persecution. 00:04:21.000 --> 00:04:28.600 In fact, what God's word tells us, Jesus's own words is to expect it. And to actually, when we're 00:04:28.600 --> 00:04:37.480 persecuted to kind of understand the blessing that comes from that. And Daniel falls into that category 00:04:37.480 --> 00:04:46.680 as well. As Daniel is elevated, there's a group of men who feel that they've wrongly been passed over. 00:04:49.240 --> 00:04:56.440 And so they look to find fault in Daniel, but there's not any fault that they can find. 00:04:57.400 --> 00:05:04.360 We'll laugh about this. Like the government has done their due diligence to find any error, any fault, 00:05:04.360 --> 00:05:09.960 any area of questioning of the integrity. There's not been a paperclip that this man has taken home. 00:05:11.320 --> 00:05:16.680 He is a man of character and integrity of God. And that's who they seem, that's who they believe him 00:05:16.680 --> 00:05:26.040 to be. But they still begin to desire and plot and plan to bring Daniel down to elevate themselves. 00:05:28.200 --> 00:05:31.960 So read with me. We're going to read verses five through verses 15. 00:05:34.360 --> 00:05:41.320 Then these men said we shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel, 00:05:41.320 --> 00:05:46.920 unless we find it connected with the law of his God. 00:05:48.600 --> 00:05:53.160 Then these high officials and satraps came by agreement to the king and said to him, 00:05:53.960 --> 00:06:01.480 "O king, Darius, live forever. All the high officials of the kingdom, the prefects and the satraps and 00:06:01.480 --> 00:06:08.920 the counselors and the governors are agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce 00:06:08.920 --> 00:06:17.000 an injunction that whoever makes petition to any god or man for 30 days, except to you, 00:06:17.000 --> 00:06:24.760 O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. Now, O king, establish the injunction and sign the document 00:06:24.760 --> 00:06:30.840 so that it cannot be changed according to the law of the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked. 00:06:31.960 --> 00:06:38.440 Therefore, King Darius signed the document and the injunction. And when Daniel knew that the document 00:06:38.440 --> 00:06:45.320 had been signed, he went into his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open towards Jerusalem. 00:06:46.760 --> 00:06:54.520 He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done 00:06:54.520 --> 00:07:04.520 previously. Then these men came by agreement and found Daniel making petition and plea before his God. 00:07:05.880 --> 00:07:13.160 Then they came near and said before the king concerning the injunction, "O king, did you not sign an injunction 00:07:13.800 --> 00:07:21.480 that anyone who makes a petition to any god or man within 30 days except to you, O king, shall be cast into 00:07:21.480 --> 00:07:30.760 the den of lions?" And the king answered and said, "The thing stands fast according to the law of the Medes and 00:07:30.760 --> 00:07:40.920 the Persians, which cannot be revoked." Then they answered and said before the king, "Daniel, who was one of the exiles 00:07:40.920 --> 00:07:50.600 from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or the injunction you have signed, but makes his petition three 00:07:50.600 --> 00:08:01.480 times a day." Then the king, when he heard these words, was much distressed and set his mind to deliver 00:08:01.480 --> 00:08:13.160 Daniel. And he labored till the son went down to rescue him. Then these men came by agreement to the king and said to 00:08:13.160 --> 00:08:25.080 the king, "No, O king, that is the law of the Medes and the Persians, that no injunction or ordinance that the king 00:08:25.080 --> 00:08:31.880 establishes can be established can be changed." I want to talk to you this morning about godly routine. 00:08:34.760 --> 00:08:35.720 Godly routine. 00:08:38.120 --> 00:08:41.240 If someone were going to accurately attack your character, 00:08:43.160 --> 00:08:44.280 where would they attack you? 00:08:46.200 --> 00:08:52.840 Would they attack your honesty? Would they attack your financials? Would they attack your thought 00:08:52.840 --> 00:08:59.160 life? Would they attack your search history? Would they attack your language? Would they attack the way 00:08:59.160 --> 00:09:06.280 that you view other people? If people were going to attack your character, where would they attack you? 00:09:07.160 --> 00:09:15.560 Now imagine the setting that we walk into. Imagine if the only way your character could be attacked by 00:09:15.560 --> 00:09:24.200 the pagan laws culture you live in is for them to find fault in you due to your faithfulness to God. 00:09:26.200 --> 00:09:33.080 That's what we find here in Daniel chapter 6, verse 5. "Then these men said, 'We shall not find any 00:09:33.080 --> 00:09:40.520 grounds for complaint against this Daniel, unless we find it in connection with the law of his God.'" 00:09:42.040 --> 00:09:49.880 The pagan world looks at him and says, 'There's nothing there, so where we will attack him is in his faithfulness 00:09:51.720 --> 00:09:54.760 to his God.'" So they go to the king 00:09:56.040 --> 00:10:04.840 And they propose a law. A law that could be common during this time amongst the nations as one nation 00:10:04.840 --> 00:10:11.560 conquered another. That there would be a time period that the people who were conquered and everyone to 00:10:11.560 --> 00:10:20.680 show unity under this new law, under this new king, would pledge a time period of personal devotion to that 00:10:20.680 --> 00:10:29.240 king and that king alone. But this law will come that they impose. And this law, once it is set, 00:10:30.280 --> 00:10:40.280 cannot be overturned. Even the king himself cannot choose to grant forgiveness for someone who breaks the law. 00:10:41.480 --> 00:10:50.280 And so this new law will only last for one month and establishes within what they will set to accomplish, 00:10:50.280 --> 00:11:00.760 that no one can pray, no one can worship to anyone else except the king. 00:11:03.080 --> 00:11:10.840 And if you do, it's not a financial matter, it's a life matter. 00:11:12.760 --> 00:11:16.760 And what will cause you is your life. 00:11:18.760 --> 00:11:23.400 And so the king agrees. You see, for Darius, this makes sense. 00:11:24.360 --> 00:11:29.720 For Darius, remember as we looked through and we saw the kings of Babylon, right, it's not that one 00:11:29.720 --> 00:11:35.400 king decided, you know what, it's time for me to retire and let the next person come in and lead. 00:11:36.600 --> 00:11:40.120 You get removed from leadership when your life is removed. 00:11:41.640 --> 00:11:48.600 And so Darius, I'm sure, not confident in where he stands, probably worried that there are assassins 00:11:48.600 --> 00:12:05.240 all around, no one can seek out, no one can petition, no one can worship unless it's Darius. 00:12:07.320 --> 00:12:09.320 And so Daniel finds out about the law. 00:12:10.520 --> 00:12:16.320 Daniel, who, what we could kind of come to understand is there's the king and then there's like a prime minister 00:12:16.320 --> 00:12:20.280 and this is the capacity in which Daniel is fulfilling at this time. 00:12:21.520 --> 00:12:25.400 He finds out about the law and what does he do? 00:12:27.640 --> 00:12:33.720 Verse 10 tells us when Daniel knew that the document had been signed, 00:12:35.720 --> 00:12:44.040 He went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. 00:12:45.400 --> 00:12:58.440 He got down on his knees three times a day and he prayed and he gave thanks before his God as he had done continues in his worship of God. 00:13:38.560 --> 00:13:47.040 What we see about Daniel's routine is Daniel's routine displayed Daniel's loyalty. 00:13:48.860 --> 00:13:52.140 Sometimes we look at routine as a bad thing. 00:13:53.200 --> 00:13:56.160 Oh, I get stuck in my routine. 00:13:56.640 --> 00:14:01.040 I've got to get out of the routine I'm in to bring about a freshness. 00:14:01.500 --> 00:14:09.240 Well, let me challenge you to begin to look at routine with a way that I feel like the Lord is challenging me to look at the spiritual routine in my life. 00:14:09.240 --> 00:14:22.980 It's to not look at a spiritual routine as a rut to get stuck in, but to look at my spiritual routine as the spiritual disciplines that God is using to grow me and to grow me closer to this question, and not that this question is coming from me at you, 00:14:40.640 --> 00:14:55.080 but that this question was a question that the Holy Spirit prompted me to evaluate over the last
