Shalom and welcome, dear listeners. Today, we delve into the words of Rabbi Tarfon from the Ethics of our Fathers, Chapter 2, Mishna 16. Rabbi Tarfon tells us, "The day is short, the work is much, the workers are lazy, the reward is great, and the Master is pressing." Rabbi Tarfon, with these words, is painting a picture of our everyday lives. The day is short, we all have 24 hours, yet the work we need to do seems unending. Be it in our jobs, our relationships, or our personal growth, the tasks seem monumental. The workers are lazy, Rabbi Tarfon is guiding us here to recognize our human frailty, our tendencies to procrastinate, to defer and to delay. Yet, in the same breath, Rabbi Tarfon reminds us, the reward is great. The fruits of our labor, be it peace in our homes, success in our businesses, or growth in our character, are immense. And lastly, the Master is pressing. G-d is waiting. He's not an indifferent spectator, but a concerned parent urging us to fulfill our potential. So, let's take Rabbi Tarfon's words to heart. Let's not be disheartened by the enormity of the tasks before us, but let us take small steps, consistent actions every day. Let's overcome our laziness, not by grand gestures, but by small deeds, consistently done. Let's remember the great reward waiting for us and know that the Master, G-d himself, is urging us forward.
