उभौ मार्गौ

कदाचित् मृगयायै गतः जुनागढदेशस्य मृगयाप्रियः राजा अङ्गारः वेगेन अश्वं चालयन् सहचरेभ्यः पृथक् जातः । मृगयायां मारितान् बहून् शशान् अश्वस्य पुच्छे अबध्नात् सः । प्रतिगमनमार्गम् अजानन् सः इतस्ततः पश्यन् अश्वं मन्दं चालयन् वृक्षस्य मूले उपविष्टं ध्यानमग्नं कञ्चन संन्यासिनं दृष्टवान् । राजा तं प्रणम्य राजधानीं प्रति गमनार्थं मार्गम् अपृच्छत् । संन्यासी राज्ञः मृगयाप्रवृत्तिं दृष्ट्वा 'अहम् उभौ एव मार्गौ जानामि । प्राणिवधकर्ता नरकं याति, दयाशीलः जनः स्वर्गे विराजते' इति । एतस्मात् लज्जान्वितः राजा क्षमां याचित्वा प्राणिवधं परित्यक्तवान् ।

Once, a king named Angara of Junagadh, who was fond of hunting, went on a hunting expedition. Riding his horse at great speed, he got separated from his companions. During the hunt, he killed many hares and tied them to the tail of his horse. Not knowing the way back, he wandered here and there, and saw a Sanyasi meditating under a tree. The king greeted the Sanyasi and asked for the way back to the capital. Observing the king's hunting activity, the Sanyasi said, 'I know two paths. The one who kills living beings goes to hell and the compassionate person ascends to heaven’. Feeling ashamed, the king sought forgiveness and gave up hunting.

सम्भाषणसन्देशः इति संस्कृतमासिकपत्रिका (https://sambhashanasandesha.in) । एतस्यां पत्रिकायां प्रकाशिताः लेखाः, कथाः, बालकथाः, वार्ताः इत्यादिकं सर्वम् अपि सरलसंस्कृतेन एव प्रकाश्यते । तत्रत्याः “बालमोदिनी”नामिकाः बालकथाः अत्र प्रसार्यन्ते । अतः अस्याः शृङ्खलायाः नाम अपि “बालमोदिनी” एव । लघु गात्रं, सरला भाषा च कथानां विशेषः । प्रत्येकं कथा काञ्चित् नीतिं बोधयति । बालकथाः आबालवृद्धं सर्वेषां प्रियाः । संस्कृतेन ताः श्रोतुम् उपलब्धाः भवन्तु इति एषः प्रयत्नः श्रोतृभ्यः अवश्यं रोचेत इति विश्वासः । संस्कृतक्षेत्रे संस्कृतेन पॉड्कास्ट् क्रियमाणाः एताः प्रप्रथमाः कथाः इति सगौरवम् उद्घोष्यते ।
