Chunks: The Book of Psalms

Psalms 135 and 136 have to be read together; they’re like two sides of the same poetic coin. Together, they form a tribute to the faithful love of God—a theme that’s especially obvious in Psalm 136. That psalm reads like a liturgical call and response, in which a worship leader would call out a piece of Israel’s history, a reminder of God’s goodness to his people, and the congregation responds in unison, “His love endures forever.” We may sometimes struggle to be faithful to our own promises to love, but faithful love is intrinsic to God’s very nature.

What is Chunks: The Book of Psalms?

If the Bible had a hymnal, it would be the book of Psalms. This diverse collection of 150 poems and prayers runs the gamut of emotion and experience, from songs of highest praise to the deepest depths of lament, from prayers for help and salvation to vehement curses against the psalmist's enemies. We will not cover all the psalms in this podcast, nor take them in order. But my hope is that each episode will help you connect more personally with the riches of the Psalms. All biblical passages will be read from the New International Version, unless otherwise noted.
