Faith, Finances and F*Bombs

Hartley is put off by a negative emoji, Kevin hints about how the market is likely to perform during this election year, and they discuss where to see tangible proof of God answering prayer.

SHOW NOTES:
  • Hartley refers to Harvard University's version of a popular Implicit Association Test (IAT). Proponents of the IAT have not shown that it unequivocally measures unconscious racism and have failed to rule out alternative explanations. The IAT has not been shown to correlate with other established measures of prejudice and discrimination or to predict discriminatory behavior. Another criticism of the IAT is that it may measure associations that are picked up from cultural knowledge rather than associations actually residing within a person. The counter-argument is that such associations may indeed arise from the culture, but they can nonetheless influence behavior.
  • A Key Takeaway is missing from the audio in this episode: 4 weeks (28 days) — Hartley's accident was August 5, 2021. He was released from the hospital on September 2, 2021. Hartley's stay in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit was 13 days; he was in an inpatient Rehabilitation hospital for 7 days.
