Joel, the son of Pethuel, begins to describe desolation and destruction, including locusts eating everything. The drunkards are told to wake up. The priests are told to mourn and call a solemn assembly. The animals are also suffering greatly, groaning and perplexed. It should cause the people to cry to Yahweh.
