Closer to Christ

As the presidential election draws closer, people’s fear is tangible. Some of this fear is rational. Much of this fear is not. Our future does not rest in the hands of the man who will be elected as our next president. Our future rests in the hands of the One who created and rules over all things. Our future rests in the hands of the One who understands the ungodly, sinful nature that resides in all people and has therefore established government to curb our greed, selfishness and violence. Our future rests in the hands of the One for whom government is merely a tool to provide stability for gospel proclamation because there is only one mediator who can change hearts. Our future rests in the hands of the One who calls his people to provide a unique service in this world—to pray in love, to assume the best of others, to respect everyone, and to not allow fear to lead to anger. As God’s people we have a role to play in politics, but it is not the role that many assume.
