July 23, 2026 - Minnesota is experiencing an unprecedented and elevated fire risk due to an extended extreme heat wave, exceptionally dry conditions, and a severe lightning event that occurred earlier in the month. There are currently at least 25 active fires in northern Minnesota, requiring significant national and state support to manage incident objectives. EDED Host Karen Wright talked with William Gleasner, Wildfire Operations Supervisor with the MN DNR's Interagency Fire Center in Grand Rapids about the impact of climate change on the frequency and severity of these wildfires and what individuals can do to protect our state's resources.
