Collisions YYC

In this episode, hear about the realities of modern day slavery from Andrey Sawchenko, IJM Regional Vice President of forced labour programs in Asia Pacific. Andrey shares devastating examples of how vulnerable people can be swept into trafficking through promises of work and pay through something as innocuous as a Facebook ad. You’ll gain clarity on how this happens and, more importantly, how IJM strengthens local justice systems to ensure abusers cannot continue to exploit people.

Show Notes

Andrey has been with IJM for 18 years working in countries including India, Philippines, and Thailand. Over this time, low skill jobs have attracted migrant workers who want a better life for their family only to be enslaved and trafficked in industries such as agriculture, manufacturing and fishing. By strengthening local justice systems, not only will offenders be held accountable but there will be less crime and more protection for the most vulnerable. Andrey also shares insights on how IJM raises funds and creates key partnerships for this important work.
