नूनता कच्छपबककथा

काचित् पुत्री शयनसमये जनकम् एकां कथां श्रावयितुम् अवदत् । तदा पिता कच्छपबककथां वक्तुम् आरभते । तदा पुत्री तम् अवरुणद्धि । यतः तत्र कच्छपस्य मरणं भवति इति कारणतः । किन्तु पिता वदति यत् नूतनां कच्छपबककथां वदामि इति । कथायां तस्यां कच्छपस्य हानिः न भवति इति श्रुत्वा आनन्दिता पुत्री निद्रां कृतवती ।

One night, a daughter asked her father to tell her a story before going to sleep. The father began to tell the story of the tortoise and the cranes. The daughter stopped him because, in that story, the tortoise dies. The father then said that he would tell a new version of the story. When the daughter heard that the tortoise would not be harmed in this version, she became happy and went to sleep.
