ज्ञानाय परिश्रमः एव मार्गः

कश्चन राजा तस्य पुत्रं गुरुकुलं प्रेषयितुम् इच्छन् तत्रत्यम् आचार्यम् अपृच्छत् यत् तस्य पुत्रस्य वासशिक्षणादिनिमित्तं कापि विशेषव्यव्यस्था परिकल्पयितुं शक्यते वा इति । तदा आचार्यः अवदत् 'राजकुलीयानां सञ्चाराय, वासाय, आहारस्य वा विशेषव्यवस्था भवेत् राजभवने किन्तु ज्ञानमार्गेण ये गन्तुम् इच्छेयुः तेषां निमित्तं पार्थक्येन न भवति विशेषमार्गः । अत्र राजकुमारेण सर्वैः सह वासः करणीयः, सर्वैः यत् सेव्येत तदेव सेवनीयं, सर्वैः यथा परिश्रमेण अध्ययनं क्रियेत तथैव करणीयम् च‌’ इति । राजा प्रतिवचनं किमपि अनुक्त्वा अनन्तरदिने एव पुत्रम् आनीय गुरुकुलं प्रवेशितवान् ।

A king wished to send his son to a gurukula and asked the teacher if any special arrangements could be made for the prince’s stay and education. The teacher replied: “Special provisions for travel, lodging, or food may exist in the royal palace, but on the path of knowledge there is no separate way. Here the prince must live with all, eat what all eat, and study with the same effort as everyone else”. The king said nothing in response, but the very next day he brought his son and admitted him into the gurukula.

What is बालमोदिनी?
