वास्तविकाः साधवः

कदाचित् ऊर्ध्वपुण्ड्रधारिणः जटाभिः शोभमानाः दशमिताः विरागिसाधवः चिटिकां विना रेल्यानम् आरूढवन्तः । सर्वेSपि साधवः कारागारं प्रति नेयाः इति चिटिकानिरीक्षदलेन आरक्षिणः आदिष्टाः यतः तेषु असाधवः अपि आसन् केचन । आरक्षकनिरीक्षकः सर्वान् साधून् आहूय - 'ये त्रिपुण्ड्रम् अपसारयेयुः, ये कण्ठे धृतां रुद्राक्षमालां भञ्जयेयुः च तान् कारागारतः मोचयिष्यामः' इति वदति । अष्ट साधवः तथैव कृतवन्तः । किन्तु उभौ साधू तथा कर्तुं सहमतौ न जातौ । तेन ज्ञातं के साधवः असाधवः च इति । तौ द्वौ सधू मोचितौ, अष्ट साधवः बन्धिताः च ।

Once, 10 sages wearing Urdhvapundra and Rudraksha boarded a train without tickets. Since they didn’t have tickets, they were all taken to jail. The inspector called all the sages and said, 'Those who can remove the Urdhvapundra and break the Rudraksha mala, I will release them from jail.' Eight of them agreed to do so. However, two of them did not agree. Thus, it was revealed who were virtuous and non-virtuous. The two virtuous sages were freed, while the eight were imprisoned.
