Taunting people is a dangerous thing. Some men from the Jebusites decided to taunt David, they said, Our blind and our lame in our city of Jerusalem could keep you back from coming into our city.
They thought they were well defended. They thought they were Impenetrable. They thought even their blind and their lame could stop David. But David will put the challenge to his army and to the one who retains that challenge and defeats the city, he says, I'll make you chief and captain over the Army.
Well, Joab will do exactly that because the people taunted David. David was determined to overthrow them, and he did.
