कश्चन संन्यासी प्रयाणेन श्रान्तः सन् कस्यचित् गृहस्य पुरतः स्थित्वा भोजनं याचितवान् । गृहस्वामी सादरं तम् अन्तः नीत्वा भोजनं प्रदत्तवान् । किञ्चित्कालं विश्रान्तिसुखम् अनुभवन् प्रस्थानसमये संन्यासी गृहस्वामिने धनं दातुम् उद्युक्तः । किन्तु गृहस्वामी धनप्राप्तीच्छया न, अपि तु बुभुक्षिताय अन्नदानं पुण्यम् इत्यतः भोजनं दत्तम् इति अवदत् । संन्यासी उक्तवान् यत् 'दीयमानं धनं तु स्वार्थाय न, अपि तु पुनरपि अन्नदानाय उपयुज्ताम् । एतादृशं पुण्यकार्यं परम्परया प्रवर्तेत' इति कथयन् अनुरोधपूर्वकं गृहस्वामिने धनं दत्त्वा ततः निर्गतवान् । तौ दम्पती भक्त्या तं नमस्कृतवन्तौ ।

A wandering sage, weary from travel, stood outside a house and requested food. The householder respectfully invited him in and served him a meal. After resting for a while, the sage prepared to leave and offered money to the host. But the host declined, saying he had given food not for money, but as a sacred duty to feed the hungry. The sage replied, “This money is not for personal use, but to help you continue feeding others. Let this noble act become a tradition.” With gentle insistence, he gave the money and departed. The couple bowed to him with devotion.
