Guidelines for walking the stations of the cross

This podcast serves as an audio guide for a self-guided listening experience to meditate on the 14 Stations of the Cross. The podcast is timed so you can let it play continuously, having for a brief time of silence in between each station. A bell tone will sound, followed by a prompt indicating it is time to prepare for the next station.

Option
The podcast can be used in a variety of ways. One can listen while taking a walk, or finding a quiet place, inside or outside, and listen to the prayers, identified stations, and prompts for reflection. If you have access to a church or garden with visual representations of the stations, the podcast can serve as a wonderful guide for physically walking the stations.

Information about the Stations

The Stations of the Cross are a 14-step devotion commemorating Jesus Christ's last day on Earth as a man. These stations focus on specific events beginning with his condemnation. These are commonly used as a mini pilgrimage. At each station, recall and meditate on the specific event from Christ's last day.

Source of Prayers

The opening and closing prayers are taken from Gathering for Worship: Patterns and Prayers for the Community of Disciples, edited by Christopher J. Ellis and Myra Blyth for The Baptist Union of Great Brittain. Canterbury Press, Norwich, 2005.

What is Open to Explore Devotions?

The Open to Explore Devotions podcast is produced by First Baptist Church of Athens, Georgia. Season 8 begins Monday, February 19 and offers daily devotions Monday through Friday during the season of Lent. The devotions are personal stories given by members and come from their personal life and journey in faith. Real people sharing their joys and sorrows, doubts and convictions, fears, hopes, and gratitude. The hope is that their insights will bring inspiration, encouragement, and discovery to others.
