Jewish Ideas to Change the World

Rabbi Dr. Shmuly Yanklowitz, President & Dean at Valley Beit Midrash, presents his lecture "Systems of Confinement & The Dignities of Freedom" before an audience at Temple Chai (www.templechai.com/) in Phoenix, AZ.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: Many understand that killing a human or animal is wrong. Many also know that physical torture of a human or an animal is wrong. But what about confinement? Are cages for humans or animals always wrong? In this session, we will explore Jewish texts and leading secular philosophers on the topic of confinement and freedom. We’ll observe commonalities between industrial prisons and factory farms to raise some difficult ethical questions.
