this morning. 00:03:47.000 --> 00:03:50.400 But last week, we started looking at this concept of they, not some. 00:03:50.820 --> 00:03:55.320 That when we read Acts chapter 2 and we read Acts chapter 4 and we see the great work that 00:03:55.320 --> 00:04:01.200 God does and people getting saved, that there's this commonality that we see amongst the believers. 00:04:01.520 --> 00:04:07.940 That when it's described what the church looks like, there's this notion of the they and not 00:04:07.940 --> 00:04:15.400 the notion of the some, meaning that there was great unity amongst the body of what was happening 00:04:15.400 --> 00:04:18.080 and what was taking place. 00:04:18.400 --> 00:04:24.080 And so as we look through this, this is an examination for us to say, is this what we, 00:04:24.080 --> 00:04:31.800 not as I as an individual, but that we've embraced as a church, as a body of believers, as we look 00:04:31.800 --> 00:04:40.180 together to press into what it truly looks like to be a family that God has called us to be. 00:04:40.540 --> 00:04:47.640 And so we see some very unique circumstances that begin to unfold amongst the early church. 00:04:47.640 --> 00:04:54.220 Now it's important for us to remember that there was great diversity in the early church. 00:04:54.220 --> 00:04:58.440 There were people from different languages that had come together. 00:04:58.800 --> 00:05:02.820 There were people from different countries, from different backgrounds, from different races, 00:05:03.220 --> 00:05:08.880 from different socioeconomic backgrounds that had come together and we saw this great unity 00:05:08.880 --> 00:05:16.500 of diversity so that diversity was there, but diversity wasn't the goal. 00:05:16.600 --> 00:05:24.740 The goal for the church, which is the goal for us today, is yes to have diversity, but in that 00:05:24.740 --> 00:05:31.060 as God begins to work and move in the life of diverse people, of what comes from that is this sense of community living amongst the early church, that they looked at each other, 00:06:12.180 --> 00:06:18.240 they saw where they had needs, and the body of believers together said, we take 00:06:40.000 Let's begin to understand what is taking place. 00:06:40.520 --> 00:06:45.300 In the early church, what we begin to understand is this, nothing is mine. 00:06:47.480 --> 00:06:56.640 The but it hit me in my face this week as we begin to see that this is what Scripture turns us to. 00:11:48.960 --> 00:11:54.080 And it's a switch that we begin to flip and begin to look at things 00:12:39.520 --> 00:12:46.320 if we want to be used for redemption and restoration amongst our people where God has placed us, 00:12:46.580 --> 00:12:49.680 then the solution to that is not a new strategy. 00:12:50.280 --> 00:12:56.580 The solution to that is not a better message, a more impactful small group, a new building. 00:12:57.420 --> 00:13:05.900 That the means of this is that the body, the bride of Christ, be more Christ-like and be more selfless. 00:13:06.260 --> 00:13:11.520 And that is where the redemption and the restoration and the power of God takes place. 00:13:11.520 start reading in verse 1. 00:13:50.860 --> 00:13:53.520 This is now before the feast of the Passover. 00:13:54.300 --> 00:14:01.300 When Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world. 00:14:01.540 --> 00:14:03.760 He loved them to the end. 00:14:04.560 --> 00:14:11.460 During supper, when the devil had already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him. 00:14:12.220 --> 00:14:18.880 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he had come from God, was going back to God, 00:14:18.880 --> 00:14:20.560 rose from supper. 00:14:20.860 --> 00:14:26.260 He lay aside his outer garments and, taking a towel, tied it around his waist. 00:14:26.700 --> 00:14:36.660 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 00:14:36.800 --> 00:14:57.320 And so as Jesus gathers these disciples around him, he's trying to, one last time before the cross, explain to them what he's come to do, 00:14:57.320 --> 00:15:01.420 what he's calling them to do, what he's calling them to do, and modeling this before them. 00:15:01.820 --> 00:15:10.980 This is the time where he will implement the Lord's Supper and the breaking of the bread and the drinking of the wine to represent the sacrifice of what hand towel from a basin or from a hook on the wall and wipe your feet clean. 00:18:08.720 --> 00:18:15.280 Instead, the servant who washed your feet would have had a towel around their waist
