प्रयत्नेन किं न साध्येत ?

सातारानगरे देवरायनामकः कश्चन धनिकः रामनामकस्य निर्धनसेवकस्य कदाचित् निर्धनताविषये अपहासम् अकरोत् । प्रयत्नेन सर्वम् अपि साधयितुं शक्येत इति मत्वा सः कष्टेन प्रयाणं कृत्वा काशीम् अगच्छत् । कस्यचित् आचार्यस्य गृहे आश्रयं प्राप्य कठिनपरिश्रमं कुर्वन् द्वादश वर्षाणि यावत् अधीत्य व्याकरणे, न्याये, वेदान्ते, अर्थशास्त्रे च प्रावीण्यं प्राप्तवान् । तदीयां विद्वत्तां दृष्ट्वा पेशवराजः तम् उच्चपदे नियुक्तवान् । कदाचित् सातारानगरम् आगतवन्तं रामं वार्धक्यं प्राप्तवान् सः धनिकः देवरायः एव स्वागतीकृत्य सत्कृत्य पूर्वतनघटनां स्मरन् क्षमायाचनाम् अकरोत् ।

In Satara city, a wealthy man named Devaraya once mocked his poor servant Rama for his poverty. Believing that effort could achieve anything, Rama undertook a difficult journey to Kashi. There, he found shelter in a teacher’s house and, through twelve years of hard study, mastered grammar, logic, Vedanta, and economics. Impressed by his learning, the Peshwa appointed him to a high position. Later, when Rama returned to Satara, Devaraya himself welcomed him with honor and, recalling the past incident, apologized.
