So much is 00:01:01.620 --> 00:01:07.180 difficult to know or can't be known. So much seems with dragons and the things that are happening and 00:01:07.180 --> 00:01:11.940 taking place in the Antichrist and suffering and persecution and what would happen that it brings 00:01:11.940 --> 00:01:18.240 fear and uncertainty. Does it bring confusion and frustration? And I know what you mean with that. 00:01:18.280 --> 00:01:23.060 I was like, this is so hard to understand and I want to know. And so what comes from that, 00:01:23.060 --> 00:01:28.040 because I can't fully understand and my mind needs to work in this way, that then what comes from me is 00:01:28.040 --> 00:01:34.720 frustration in that moment. Well, I want to encourage you that as we read through Daniel 12, 00:01:35.380 --> 00:01:41.340 as we read through this passage this morning, the passage that my Bible says that the time of the end 00:01:41.340 --> 00:01:50.480 was what it's entitled as in my Bible, that it would bring something more than simplistic fascination and 00:01:50.480 --> 00:01:59.360 wonder. It would bring more than fear and uncertainty. It would bring more than confusion and frustration. 00:02:00.060 --> 00:02:08.500 Not just Daniel 12, but in the topic of end times. The apostle John says this in 1 John 3, 1 through 3. 00:02:08.940 --> 00:02:09.500 He says, 00:02:09.500 --> 00:02:12.280 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, 00:02:12.280 --> 00:02:21.260 that we should be called children of God, and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is 00:02:21.260 --> 00:02:32.900 that it did not know Him. Beloved, we are God's children now. And what we will be has not yet appeared. 00:02:34.360 --> 00:02:43.440 But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him because we shall see Him as He is. 00:02:44.640 --> 00:02:52.440 And everyone who thus hopes in Him purifies himself as He is pure. 00:02:53.580 --> 00:03:00.340 So John, in reference to the end times, John who will be, John who writes Revelation, 00:03:01.560 --> 00:03:08.640 comes and appeals in 1 John 3. And he says, listen, here's what the topic of end times 00:03:08.640 --> 00:03:16.600 should create, should call you and I too. And I think 1 John 3 is very similar to what we're going to find in Daniel 12. 00:03:17.140 --> 00:03:21.800 And it's number one, it's this, that you are a child of God. 00:03:22.720 --> 00:03:28.100 That you are a child of God. If you've put your faith, hope, and trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. 00:03:29.100 --> 00:03:32.720 Yes, amen, you are a child of God. 00:03:33.560 --> 00:03:41.600 But there's two. And in that, and in that, that you and I are called to personal discipleship. 00:03:42.260 --> 00:03:45.500 To personal discipleship. And what does personal discipleship means? 00:03:45.880 --> 00:03:48.760 You're like, but I go to discipleship. Well, what is personal discipleship? 00:03:49.080 --> 00:03:56.460 Well, personal discipleship is the ownership that you have in your own life to determine that I want to become more and more like Jesus. 00:03:57.480 --> 00:04:00.960 And that this isn't going to happen by me just sitting here. 00:04:01.380 --> 00:04:05.880 It isn't going to happen by happenstance of just hoping that all these things work out. 00:04:06.240 --> 00:04:14.320 It's by personal ownership of you making the choice to be a disciple of Jesus. 00:04:15.180 --> 00:04:18.160 And what it looks like to follow him. 00:04:19.120 --> 00:04:22.080 I read an author this week who said in reference to Daniel 12, 00:04:22.900 --> 00:04:30.360 that Daniel 12 teaches us how to live as faithful exiles in a world that is not our home. 00:04:32.020 --> 00:04:36.420 That you and I are called to live as faithful exiles in a world that is not our own. 00:04:36.820 --> 00:04:39.420 You see, in the comparison of what we've seen throughout the study of Daniel, 00:04:39.560 --> 00:04:41.880 Daniel was taken from his home. 00:04:42.440 --> 00:04:48.220 Daniel was taken from his home into a foreign land with pagan people and pagan practices and pagan religions 00:04:48.220 --> 00:04:53.520 and tried to force into conforming into what the pagan world had for him. 00:04:54.340 --> 00:05:00.640 But Daniel said, no, I'm going to be faithful to my God as I am away from my home. 00:05:00.780 --> 00:05:05.180 And when I'm in my home, I will be faithful to him there too. 00:05:06.000 --> 00:05:07.100 That's the call for you and I. 00:05:07.720 --> 00:05:11.900 The difficult part is the world that we live in is our home for now. 00:05:13.220 --> 00:05:19.600 And so we can live as exiles in this land. 00:05:20.880 --> 00:05:24.420 And when it comes to the end times in Daniel, 00:05:24.860 --> 00:05:28.880 we see the reminder of the hope that we have as well. 00:05:29.300 --> 00:05:32.900 That we are God's children and we are called to be like him. 00:05:33.360 --> 00:05:36.280 So let's read the first two verses of chapter 12. 00:05:37.000 --> 00:05:38.000 First two verses says, 00:05:38.000 --> 00:05:44.520 Because at that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who is in charge of your people. 00:05:45.280 --> 00:05:50.080 And there shall be a time of trouble or a time of tribulation. 00:05:50.720 --> 00:05:55.180 Such has never been since there was a nation till that time. 00:05:55.720 --> 00:05:59.100 But at that time your people shall be delivered. 00:05:59.680 --> 00:06:03.120 Everyone whose name shall be found written in the book. 00:06:03.380 --> 00:06:09.100 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake. 00:06:09.560 --> 00:06:16.100 Some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting content. 00:06:17.100 --> 00:06:23.180 You see, Daniel 12 is the end of this unit that we've been studying for the last several weeks in Daniel. 00:06:23.520 --> 00:06:27.200 Daniel 10, Daniel 11, and Daniel 12 come together. 00:06:27.200 --> 00:06:35.280 And Daniel is getting communication and vision from God through the angel Gabriel concerning the end times. 00:06:35.540 --> 00:06:40.420 And it comes to Daniel that in the end times that there will be a great persecution. 00:06:41.500 --> 00:06:43.480 There will be a great tribulation. 00:06:44.300 --> 00:06:48.240 But God will provide divine protection. 00:06:48.760 --> 00:06:49.860 And here's what's important. 00:06:49.960 --> 00:06:51.880 One of the aspects we can draw from here. 00:06:52.180 --> 00:06:59.280 And that from that there will be hope for those whose names are written in the book. 00:06:59.880 --> 00:07:03.200 The book is what we see here in Daniel chapter 12. 00:07:03.340 --> 00:07:05.420 And we'll explain a little bit of that. 00:07:05.720 --> 00:07:08.280 Well, folks, I don't know the timetable. 00:07:09.340 --> 00:07:10.820 I don't know the dates. 00:07:11.820 --> 00:07:15.800 Jesus tells us that no one here does. 00:07:17.240 --> 00:07:18.360 That's for the Father. 00:07:19.160 --> 00:07:21.020 But I know that the end is coming. 00:07:22.320 --> 00:07:24.700 I know that the end is approaching. 00:07:25.880 --> 00:07:28.140 When that'll be, who knows? 00:07:29.060 --> 00:07:39.140 But what if you and I were to live our life every single day in the truth that the end is coming? 00:07:40.280 --> 00:07:45.180 To live our life in the truth of what is communicated in Daniel chapter 12. 00:07:46.100 --> 00:07:47.500 That the end is coming. 00:07:48.000 --> 00:07:53.900 That you and I, as children of God, that you and I, who were called to personal discipleship, 00:07:54.200 --> 00:07:59.960 what does our life look like in the gospel truth that the end is coming? 00:08:00.300 --> 00:08:07.340 And I want to make to you this morning five appeals to live our life in the truth that the end is coming. 00:08:07.560 --> 00:08:11.600 If the end is coming, then have, number one, gospel considerations. 00:08:12.120 --> 00:08:16.000 If the end is coming, then have gospel considerations. 00:08:16.520 --> 00:08:18.860 How do you view your life? 00:08:19.860 --> 00:08:21.560 How do you view your life? 00:08:22.500 --> 00:08:32.340 If you do not see your life primarily as a child of God, the view of your life will be greatly skewed. 00:08:33.420 --> 00:08:37.840 Daniel is told that there will come a time of great trouble and tribulation. 00:08:38.420 --> 00:08:42.760 But God will send Michael, his archangel, for protection. 00:08:43.160 --> 00:08:52.240 Now here's the part of this for you and I today that the Bible says in 1 Timothy 3 that you and I should expect persecution. 00:08:53.240 --> 00:08:57.900 You see, when I live my life in gospel considerations of my life as a child of God, 00:08:58.020 --> 00:09:02.120 that I am not set free from the persecution of this world. 00:09:02.120 --> 00:09:10.760 Jesus tells us multiple times in the gospel that you and I as followers of him, that we will face trouble, that we will face persecution. 00:09:12.060 --> 00:09:17.920 But God's promise of comfort, both in Daniel 12 and for us, rings true. 00:09:18.200 --> 00:09:22.080 So how do you and I face trouble today with the comfort of God? 00:09:22.160 --> 00:09:23.440 Very simply through the Holy Spirit. 00:09:24.620 --> 00:09:26.260 Through the power of the Holy Spirit. 00:09:26.660 --> 00:09:31.600 You see, because with the Holy Spirit, what we have is not the presence of God with us as a thought, 00:09:31.720 --> 00:09:34.240 but we have the presence of God within us. 00:09:35.360 --> 00:09:37.860 The presence of God within us. 00:09:38.900 --> 00:09:40.000 You see, it's not just a mindset. 00:09:40.180 --> 00:09:40.940 It's not an ideology. 00:09:41.500 --> 00:09:42.440 It's not a thought. 00:09:42.700 --> 00:09:44.880 It's not a perspective to set our minds on. 00:09:45.760 --> 00:09:48.920 It's the truth of God and the coming of the Holy Spirit. 00:09:49.820 --> 00:09:51.820 Fulfilled as Jesus said it would in Acts. 00:09:52.820 --> 00:09:59.280 That you and I as followers of Jesus don't just simply have the presence of God around us, 00:09:59.980 --> 00:10:02.820 but we have the presence of God with us. 00:10:03.380 --> 00:10:04.320 Gospel considerations. 00:10:04.320 --> 00:10:10.380 A gospel consideration is that when we realize and understand as believers of Jesus Christ 00:10:10.380 --> 00:10:13.160 that we have the presence of God within us, 00:10:13.400 --> 00:10:19.320 that within us we have the power and the strength of God to overcome and to endure. 00:10:20.320 --> 00:10:23.620 Endure is one of my favorite words in all of the Bible. 00:10:24.200 --> 00:10:27.260 That we endure, that we endure, that we endure. 00:10:27.900 --> 00:10:31.920 That through not the power of our own, but through the power of God within us, 00:10:31.980 --> 00:10:36.240 that whatever trouble, whatever the world wants to throw at us, 00:10:36.500 --> 00:10:38.720 whatever Satan wants to put in our way, 00:10:38.960 --> 00:10:41.480 that we've got the power of God within us, 00:10:41.580 --> 00:10:45.280 that you and I have the strength to endure. 00:10:46.780 --> 00:10:48.760 And then with the power of the Holy Spirit, 00:10:48.760 --> 00:10:54.540 we have healing from the brokenness around us. 00:10:55.660 --> 00:10:57.940 This world hurts. 00:10:59.140 --> 00:11:02.000 This world causes pain. 00:11:02.840 --> 00:11:05.760 In this world, there's great suffering. 00:11:06.320 --> 00:11:07.860 There's great loss. 00:11:08.840 --> 00:11:12.020 And through the power of the Holy Spirit, 00:11:12.540 --> 00:11:14.380 those hurts are real. 00:11:14.380 --> 00:11:16.860 And God comforts us, 00:11:16.960 --> 00:11:21.260 not just with simple momentary healing, 00:11:22.100 --> 00:11:26.800 but with eternal healing that cannot be taken away. 00:11:27.900 --> 00:11:29.920 And he said, this is all possible. 00:11:30.840 --> 00:11:35.160 This is all from God for his people. 00:11:36.160 --> 00:11:42.400 For those in Daniel 12 that are found in the book. 00:11:43.400 --> 00:11:44.100 The book. 00:11:44.960 --> 00:11:48.360 This book is the book of life or the Lamb's book of life. 00:11:48.780 --> 00:11:53.340 It's written about in Revelation 13, Revelation 20, and Revelation 21. 00:11:54.080 --> 00:11:58.600 And when it comes to the names of those who are in this book, 00:11:59.060 --> 00:12:04.020 deliverance and freedom and life eternal is found. 00:12:05.720 --> 00:12:08.240 And so when your name is written in the book, 00:12:09.260 --> 00:12:13.760 there you experience the healing of eternal rescue, 00:12:14.440 --> 00:12:16.140 the healing of eternal hope, 00:12:16.500 --> 00:12:18.420 the healing of resurrection life, 00:12:18.740 --> 00:12:20.940 the healing of eternity with Jesus. 00:12:20.940 --> 00:12:23.740 But the question for you this morning is, 00:12:24.200 --> 00:12:26.400 is your name in the book? 00:12:27.440 --> 00:12:29.320 Is your name in the book? 00:12:29.900 --> 00:12:32.220 Not as your name in a discipleship study. 00:12:32.500 --> 00:12:34.320 Not as your name in a small group. 00:12:34.580 --> 00:12:36.380 Not as your name on a mission trip. 00:12:36.660 --> 00:12:38.400 Not as your name in a giving record. 00:12:38.660 --> 00:12:42.260 But is your name found in the Lamb's book of life? 00:12:42.480 --> 00:12:44.640 Has there been a point in time, 00:12:44.820 --> 00:12:46.920 not when you've done something before a crowd, 00:12:47.180 --> 00:12:49.640 not when you've done something to appease someone else, 00:12:49.720 --> 00:12:52.440 but has there been a point in time in your life 00:12:52.440 --> 00:12:53.460 that you can look to, 00:12:53.520 --> 00:12:54.760 that you have confidence in, 00:12:54.880 --> 00:12:56.760 that you know with all of certainty 00:12:56.760 --> 00:12:58.920 where you have asked Jesus Christ 00:12:58.920 --> 00:13:01.420 to be the Lord and Savior in your life? 00:13:01.520 --> 00:13:03.600 And if the answer to that is yes, 00:13:03.740 --> 00:13:04.680 then praise God, 00:13:04.760 --> 00:13:06.880 you haven't been perfect from that point, 00:13:07.000 --> 00:13:07.860 just like me, 00:13:07.980 --> 00:13:10.520 but your name was Jesus, 00:13:32.240 --> 00:13:33.040 today, 00:13:33.280 --> 00:13:35.260 I receive you 00:13:35.260 --> 00:13:37.060 as my Lord 00:13:37.060 --> 00:13:38.300 and Savior. 00:13:39.100 --> 00:13:40.780 And to see that name 00:13:40.780 --> 00:13:41.820 written 00:13:41.820 --> 00:13:43.640 in the book of life. 00:13:45.480 --> 00:13:47.480 If the end is coming, 00:13:48.040 --> 00:13:49.780 then 00:14:10.100 forever and ever. 00:14:11.100 --> 00:14:12.240 But you, Daniel, 00:14:13.060 --> 00:14:14.440 shut up the words 00:14:14.440 --> 00:14:15.660 and seal the book 00:14:15.660 --> 00:14:17.800 until the time of the end. 00:14:18.760 --> 00:14:21.040 Many shall run to and fro 00:14:21.040 --> 00:14:22.760 and knowledge 00:14:22.760 --> 00:14:24.720 shall increase. 00:14:25.420 00:15:20.580 --> 00:15:21.500 of evangelism 00:15:21.500 --> 00:15:22.220 comes from that. 00:15:22.480 --> 00:15:23.180 Telling others 00:15:23.180 --> 00:15:24.340 who Jesus is 00:15:24.340 -->
