When this episode airs it will be Thanksgiving week in the United States and, unsurprisingly, I'm talking gratitude…gratitude pitfalls, in fact.

We all know that gratitude is important, and according to Psychology Today, when they did a study of gratitude journaling, people who tracked their gratitude once a week were happier after six weeks. So a quick journal session capturing some gratitude once a week made them happier. How cool is that?!

Having said that, though, I want you to be careful with gratitude.

I know that sounds ridiculously silly! It’s like saying, "I want you to be careful with butterknives."

Gratitude seems like a pretty safe thing. Maybe it seems like a pretty dull thing too, just like butter knives.

Just hear me out, because there are lots of tools out there for happiness and fulfillment, and it's important not to rely too much on one tool.

So, in honor of thanksgiving, I touch on these 3 gratitude pitfalls:

  • Overdoing your gratitude
  • “Shoulding” all over your gratitude (falling into comparative suffering)
  • Gratitude can keep you stuck (staying stuck with a "good enough" status quo)

And show you how you can instead:

  • focus on the quality of your gratitude
  • remember to feel your feelings
  • use the formula "all is well + even better if" to create your wildly wonderful life

So, for our question of the week;
Pick ONE thing you are grateful for right now. What are 3-5 reasons you are grateful for it?

I can't wait to hear what you are grateful for and why. Please share it with me over on Instagram @productivitybreakthrough.

What is The Productivity Shift?

Have you ever noticed how most productivity advice doesn’t work for women?

That’s because you’re not a man who has a spouse at home who takes care of all the things. You’re juggling your business, your career, and your family. It’s a lot, and no wonder why things slip through the cracks despite your best intentions to get it all done.

When you treat everything as an urgent priority, you lose all sense of what truly matters. This podcast is here to help you change all of that. One week at a time.

Unlike other shows about productivity, only The Productivity Shift helps women in charge (in their biz, at work, at home, etc) take back their time and use it to make progress on what matters most to them.

Each week, Elise Enriquez, a productivity dork and certified life coach, guides you to redefine what productivity is to you. You’ll get strategies and insights you can implement right away. Lighten your load and focus on what’s most important so you can create a life and business that is meaningful to you.
