Tea, leaving the hospitality industry. 00:01:09:14 - 00:01:37:16 Jessica I would say. Well, we're not going to say exactly how old I am. I have 20 plus years observing and in the last. So I live in Phenix, Arizona, and the cocktail culture here, especially the last like 5 to 10 years, has really exploded. And I have witnessed, observed, participated in lots of great bar stories. And it's fun to sort of be the fly on the wall and watch the what's happening. 00:01:37:16 - 00:01:44:19 Jessica You sit in a bar long enough and frequently enough where you get to know people and you get to watch. Just hilarity ensue. 00:01:45:07 - 00:01:49:23 Carl Yep. Are you and also, are you a person that likes to go to the bar by themselves? 00:01:50:08 - 00:01:51:09 Jessica Oh, yeah, I love it. 00:01:51:15 - 00:02:01:09 Carl So that you get that even a lot more because now you're not even paying attention to anyone. Well, I mean, you're not there with someone to pay attention to that I am. You're there to observe people Watch. Yeah. 00:02:01:14 - 00:02:13:01 Jessica That's how you get the stories, right? Yeah, It's the best people watching is how you you make friendships and relationships with people behind the bar. Right. It's great. Yeah, I'm a big fan, and we. 00:02:13:05 - 00:02:17:04 Carl We actually met two years this May. Yeah, we were down there. 00:02:17:15 - 00:02:18:03 Jessica We had. 00:02:19:04 - 00:02:34:07 Carl Yeah. So, yeah, we kind of both started our YouTube journeys at the same time. Yeah. You would take, I think a couple of months and she gets us some really good content. You need to go watch it because her face when she tries new shit. Fantastic. 00:02:35:12 - 00:02:37:00 Riley You're bringing to live that out. 00:02:37:03 - 00:02:44:22 Jessica No, no, no. If anything, you always know I'm super honest, right? Yeah. I can't. 00:02:44:22 - 00:02:45:11 Carl Fake that. 00:02:45:18 - 00:02:47:13 Jessica I can't. No, it's not in me. 00:02:47:14 - 00:02:48:11 Riley Good quality. 00:02:49:00 - 00:03:02:21 Carl Sure. What we're going to do is we're going to go ahead and start with what are we drinking? And to start off this, Jessica is very into shipwreck coconut rum. You're just into the company itself to shipwreck rum itself, correct? 00:03:03:05 - 00:03:16:23 Jessica Yeah. There I think the the full name is BRINLEE Gold shipwreck. Yeah. I love many of the things that they make. They're all rums, right. But as you know, this one is we have a relationship. 00:03:17:12 - 00:03:26:08 Carl Right? So we can't we can only find, I think, two other rums in Madison. It's never the coconut one. 00:03:26:12 - 00:03:27:17 Riley It's always the coffee island. 00:03:27:18 - 00:03:41:03 Carl Right. And when we visited her, we walked in her little studio, and I saw that I basically I was mean. I made a beeline and we didn't even physically met for like, 20 minutes. And I'm like. 00:03:41:03 - 00:03:41:16 Jessica With that. 00:03:41:16 - 00:03:42:14 Carl I want a shot of that. 00:03:43:04 - 00:03:44:14 Riley Yeah, give me that. 00:03:44:22 - 00:03:46:22 Jessica Jimmy And did it live up to the hype? 00:03:47:00 - 00:03:51:21 Carl Oh, I've seen it. Yes. There's the. I've never tasted a coconut run like this. 00:03:52:04 - 00:03:52:17 Jessica Me neither. 00:03:52:17 - 00:03:56:16 Carl It's a looker. What is the asshole say? 00:03:56:18 - 00:04:00:11 Riley Oh, yeah, it's a coconut liqueur because. Rum. 00:04:00:19 - 00:04:03:07 Jessica Yeah, Yeah. It's a rum. 00:04:03:07 - 00:04:05:14 Carl Interviewed the CEO on your channel one time, right? 00:04:05:22 - 00:04:26:16 Jessica Yeah. Actually, Zac sat down with me. That was probably almost two years ago now, too, and talked about their story, their rooms. They sent me a bunch of different flavors. Yeah. There I if wherever you are, if you're listening, if you are able to get shipwreck, anything, get it. If you can get shipwreck coconut, buy all of it. 00:04:26:18 - 00:04:28:19 Jessica You will. Hopefully you'll thank us later. 00:04:29:07 - 00:04:33:04 Carl Yeah. We only drove to Dallas, Texas to find that rum. 00:04:33:16 - 00:04:39:16 Riley Yeah, we. We kind of stumbled upon it. I think we were looking for it, but we look for it literally everywhere we go. 00:04:40:10 - 00:04:41:17 Carl And it is only 15 hours away. 00:04:41:21 - 00:04:42:15 Riley Yeah, only. 00:04:42:19 - 00:04:43:20 Jessica That's two reasons. One. 00:04:44:10 - 00:04:45:08 Carl So you got yours ready? 00:04:45:21 - 00:04:47:04 Jessica I do, Yes. 00:04:47:09 - 00:04:48:00 Carl Cheers. 00:04:48:10 - 00:04:57:10 Jessica Cheers, friends. I gave myself a really heavy pour, so I'm going to sip this for a minute. Oh, my God. 00:04:57:10 - 00:05:06:07 Carl This is so good. So smooth. It's like coconut oil. It's almost like if you fat wash, you know, like a coconut oil inside a room. 00:05:06:14 - 00:05:07:11 Jessica That texture. 00:05:07:20 - 00:05:09:17 Carl That texture. And so, yeah. 00:05:09:18 - 00:05:11:19 Riley But I think it tastes like the inside of a man's bar. 00:05:11:21 - 00:05:12:05 Jessica Yeah. 00:05:12:17 - 00:05:13:06 Carl And I'm hearing. 00:05:13:06 - 00:05:27:11 Jessica Oh, you're right. It to me, it's instant vacation like this. You know, sometimes scents can transport you that flavor. Yeah. And I it's winter right now, obviously. And I haven't had this since the summer and. Oh, it's real because it's winter. 00:05:27:11 - 00:05:30:00 Carl You're in Phenix, Arizona. Shut the fog. 00:05:30:00 - 00:05:32:11 Jessica So cold here today. I swear to God. 00:05:32:19 - 00:05:34:04 Riley It would be three degrees. 00:05:34:23 - 00:05:40:10 Jessica No, it was only in the forties today. I swear to God. Like I'm freezing. Yeah, it'll never happen. 00:05:40:16 - 00:05:41:16 Carl Cumulation. Have you heard. 00:05:41:21 - 00:05:45:03 Jessica That? I won't talk about it. 00:05:45:03 - 00:05:46:09 Carl Riley. What else are you drinking? 00:05:46:14 - 00:05:55:14 Riley I am drinking a pot of proper, properly made British tea because I have a sinus infection. 00:05:55:14 - 00:06:18:03 Carl And here she is. Dedication Episode five Doing it sick. I am drinking two things. New Glarus. Uh, Wisconsin Belgian red. It is one of the better reds or sour reds I've ever had before, especially made here in the United States. And then after, when the other beer go, Oh, it's in my fucking hand. Jesus. 00:06:18:13 - 00:06:22:14 Jessica Wow. You know. 00:06:22:15 - 00:06:23:14 Riley It's been a day. 00:06:23:21 - 00:06:31:17 Carl And we did not film to YouTube episodes and did another video for Vino today. We did not do all that already. 00:06:31:18 - 00:06:32:09 Jessica Oh. 00:06:32:20 - 00:06:37:22 Carl And then I'm also going drinking a dragon's milk, white milk. Stout. So what about you? 00:06:37:22 - 00:06:42:01 Jessica I like them. Not stout. I'm not a beer drinker, but I do like a dark beer. 00:06:43:05 - 00:06:46:18 Riley Yeah, Yeah. Because it's it's a nice little evolution from coffee. 00:06:47:12 - 00:07:13:13 Jessica Yeah, that's exactly. I love those coffee notes of chocolate notes. I like it. Yeah, I am drinking a well, since it's freezing here, I'm drinking a toddy. I love toddies, but I wanted to do. I wanted to experiment. I've been on a big boulevardier kick lately, so this is a hot boulevardier. Really? So lemon, hot water, bourbon, Campari. 00:07:13:19 - 00:07:19:22 Jessica And then I used my spiced sirup as a instead of honey, so I don't know, this might suck. 00:07:20:19 - 00:07:23:04 Carl I mean, I don't feel so interesting. 00:07:23:05 - 00:07:25:07 Jessica Does not suck. Oh, shit. That's really good. 00:07:25:07 - 00:07:29:03 Carl Yeah, There it is. 00:07:29:14 - 00:07:38:07 Jessica That's delicious. Oh, man, I'm going to. I'm going to need more hot water very soon. You go. Yeah. 00:07:38:19 - 00:08:00:10 Carl So we're going to do is we're in today. We're going to read a story. I'll read it. We have actually a submission on our subreddit thread of Do you want to start a tab? You can find that in the description of YouTube or any podcast streaming device you're using. If you have a story that you want to share, go ahead, put it on there and then we'll read it, dissect it and tell you how you did it wrong. 00:08:01:10 - 00:08:05:23 Riley No, it's true. Oh, we will just analyze the the. 00:08:05:23 - 00:08:06:12 Carl Story of your. 00:08:06:12 - 00:08:08:08 Riley Respective in this. 00:08:08:16 - 00:08:15:22 Jessica We get to play Statler and Waldorf write like the snarky Muppets. You that. Yeah, exactly. I love it. I was born for this ride. 00:08:16:09 - 00:08:20:17 Carl Yeah. And I've had people ask me to like it. Well, if you have a guest on, are you going to are you going to. 00:08:20:23 - 00:08:21:20 Riley Tell them that they're the. 00:08:22:06 - 00:08:23:19 Carl You? And I said, Absolutely. 00:08:24:01 - 00:08:24:08 Jessica Yeah. 00:08:24:23 - 00:08:26:19 Carl Like you came on my show. 00:08:27:02 - 00:08:34:16 Riley Well, because if you work in the service industry or if you've experienced anybody in the service industry and you've done something wrong, you are the first person to admit it. 00:08:34:17 - 00:08:35:17 Jessica Mm hmm. 00:08:36:05 - 00:08:38:04 Riley Otherwise, you're not going to come here and sit and talk to us. 00:08:38:11 - 00:08:41:09 Carl Right. So she part you know, you've done tons of shit wrong, right? 00:08:44:04 - 00:08:56:14 Carl I'm afraid I'm the perfect bartender, obviously. So. Yeah. Go check us out on all social media is on. Do you want to start a tab and go ahead and go check out Jessica? And let's get started with our first story. 00:08:56:16 - 00:09:05:02 Riley So this story was submitted by Iseman 25 K Okay. And it's titled White Trash Wedding Story. 00:09:05:06 - 00:09:06:06 Carl Love it all ready. 00:09:06:12 - 00:09:08:12 Riley Sounds it sounds like home. 00:09:09:01 - 00:09:10:05 Jessica Transported already. 00:09:10:12 - 00:09:34:09 Riley Yeah. Yep. Sounds like home. I was just thinking of one of my favorite bartender stories. Well, looking at photos from our past, in May 2011, we were at a wedding of some of the worst people we know. Good sort. The person getting married was a Dwight Schrute character, and she thought she had more power than she did. She was an assistant to the manager but told everyone she was an assistant manager. 00:09:35:02 - 00:09:38:23 Jessica She worked. 00:09:38:23 - 00:10:05:07 Riley She worked with my wife and a few of our other friends, not bartenders, but cooks. So kind of still service industry when we get to the wedding. I'm one of the only people in a suit. I get to the open bar. Shocked. It was one and I always tip the bartender a large bill right away. I try to talk to them, make stupid jokes about other guests so they know I hate these people just as much as they do and get a connection because they have to be my savior for the evening. 00:10:05:11 - 00:10:06:06 Riley I think. This guy. 00:10:06:07 - 00:10:07:23 Carl Yeah, my kind of guy. 00:10:07:23 - 00:10:27:17 Riley Yeah. I get a lot of cocktails, Captain and Coke back then because I was awesome, but I'm getting cocktails for people at my table two, three or four at a time. Someone I went to high school with was at my table and he was complaining about the bartenders. He wanted it his cocktail without ice, which they did, but it was like two or three ounces in rocks glass, which is standard. 00:10:27:18 - 00:10:47:11 Riley MM Yeah. I make it my personal mission to get at doubles from now on with ice and brag about it. This infuriates the guy at my table showing me his missing teeth and telling me that he's that it's a medical condition, that he can't have ice it that I am getting doubles. I mean, I don't. 00:10:47:11 - 00:10:47:17 Jessica Know. 00:10:49:21 - 00:11:12:16 Riley He's livid that I'm getting doubles and multiple drinks when the bartenders are only letting people get one drink and partying. We hear yelling half the brides and grooms family have finally started to get along and decide in a form of unity to yell, threaten and potentially fight the bar staff. The bar staff says they are shutting down the bar, which causes everyone else to get angry since there was still an hour left. 00:11:13:05 - 00:11:33:01 Riley People are trying to diffuse the situation. People are getting kicked out. And I tell my table, I'm getting another drink. I ask the staff if I can please get another cocktail. They tell me they just can't, that they are tearing the bar down and they are complaining about the guests telling me they all had problems, didn't tip were demeaning and they think people were giving liquor to underage children. 00:11:33:10 - 00:11:52:10 Riley They said, can they give me they said they can give me a beer. If they do, I give them my last 20 and sincerely thank them. Here you go. I then hold that beer up in a victory in victory, Graves coworker thinks coworkers think it's the funniest thing they've ever seen. I don't know if this is the type of story you're interested in. 00:11:52:10 - 00:12:01:13 Riley I just love the story and I know I was an asshole. That's a term of endearment. Endearment to me. I hope people watch too. And I love messing with people when they're when they think they are never wrong. 00:12:02:17 - 00:12:04:12 Carl There is a lot to unpack there. 00:12:04:12 - 00:12:04:23 Riley Yes. 00:12:05:03 - 00:12:12:23 Jessica Yeah. I'm It's the image of the missing teeth that struck me the most is medical condition. 00:12:12:23 - 00:12:13:18 Riley I can't have eyes. 00:12:14:08 - 00:12:22:07 Jessica Were so cold water. How do we feel about cold water then Like right. Refrigeration. Ice. Wow. 00:12:22:08 - 00:12:25:09 Riley I mean, I'm not here to knock anybody is whatever medical condition. 00:12:25:09 - 00:12:30:20 Jessica But I mean, can they be real? Because I know that that one is. 00:12:31:05 - 00:12:36:02 Riley Maybe don't be an asshole to the bartender and they'll give you a double as seen in the exhibit A. 00:12:36:12 - 00:12:43:01 Carl Well, maybe just don't go to their doctor that's conditionally medically conditioning them with an ice algae or whatever it is. 00:12:44:04 - 00:12:54:05 Jessica Well, also, I feel like don't go to the bartender and say no ice expecting that you're going to get a larger drink. Oh, my God, That's not how it works. If you want to double order a double, right. Hey. 00:12:54:14 - 00:13:10:07 Carl People do that all the time. To me, it's like I want less ice. And then I still put in the right amount, like, Oh, should we pull the pole? I'm like, No, this is the properly made cocktail. Still. You just want less ice like this. I'm not an idiot. This is not my first rodeo video. All right? When it's like a cocktail that I created, right? 00:13:10:07 - 00:13:14:15 Carl Like, I'm not praying more tequila in this thing because you want more ice, right? 00:13:15:02 - 00:13:16:00 Jessica Right. It's going to taste. 00:13:16:00 - 00:13:22:20 Carl Right there to keep it cold, not to fucking get you super fucked up. You're going to get more soda water. That's what you're going to get in this thing. Not more. 00:13:22:20 - 00:13:23:16 Riley Liquor. Right? 00:13:24:07 - 00:13:40:16 Carl But he does it right. Right in. I think we I mean, now our stories are starting to blend between YouTube, just sitting upstairs in our bar, just hanging out, and then this. So if we go to weddings ourselves and when I worked at weddings, I love the people that goes, here's the 30. 00:13:41:08 - 00:13:42:09 Riley I'm not you for the this. 00:13:42:09 - 00:13:49:22 Carl Is me for I'm going to tip you every time is one large cash sum at the beginning. And you love that person because they are doing Yeah. 00:13:49:22 - 00:13:54:12 Riley And you're going to take care of them in return, right? Because that's how we do. 00:13:54:13 - 00:13:58:17 Carl Because when you're a catering bartender, you don't give a fuck how much liquor you give. 00:13:58:17 - 00:14:11:07 Riley Away when you're a bartender. My relationship with you is transactional, right? And you have just shown me that you are willing to participate in this transactional relationship. And now we can be friends. 00:14:11:15 - 00:14:21:02 Jessica We can grow together because you're invested in the relationship. You literally are partners, you know. 00:14:21:12 - 00:14:27:09 Carl And that's what happens when he goes up there. He gets whatever the fuck you want. Yeah, because the ring. Thank you. That's there. Thank you to him. 00:14:27:10 - 00:14:42:10 Riley Right. Well, and also he's not treating them like dirt. Right. Yeah. Whereas it sounds like everybody else at this wedding was treating them like dirt. So yeah, of course they're going to treat the one person treating them well. I'm better than everybody else. That's human nature. 00:14:43:03 - 00:14:56:11 Carl Open bar. It's one of the worst. It's one of the worst and best things humanly possible. It's the best for you because I don't got to pay for a fucking drink. It's the worst for the staff because everyone over drinks. Yes, everyone over drinks. 00:14:56:11 - 00:15:07:04 Riley And it's gotten to a point where cutting people off is going to cause drama because people know open bar to be overserved City. 00:15:07:11 - 00:15:16:18 Jessica Hmm. So. So we started this by pointing out that I have never been in the service industry. However, I spent ten years in the wedding industry. 00:15:16:20 - 00:15:17:05 Carl You know. 00:15:17:10 - 00:15:36:10 Jessica So I didn't even think about when we were talking about this. I didn't think about it. And let me tell you some of the nonsense that I witnessed. But like, it's interesting because of the hundreds and hundreds of weddings I've been to, I can count on one hand how many of them have not been open bar. So more often than not, right? 00:15:36:10 - 00:15:54:05 Jessica It's open bar. I would go with more than 50% of the time. People just get absolutely wasted like, yes, yeah, booze. And it doesn't matter the level of wedding too. From the most inexpensive DIY DIY wedding to the multimillion dollar weddings like it's because it's a party, right? 00:15:54:11 - 00:15:59:00 Carl And it looks worse if it's the multimillion dollar one that people are getting. Super white girl wasted. 00:15:59:10 - 00:16:00:23 Jessica So you want me to tell you what. 00:16:01:11 - 00:16:03:01 Riley To expect at lest you suspect it. 00:16:03:04 - 00:16:03:12 Carl Right. 00:16:03:13 - 00:16:07:13 Jessica For Oh, they're so much worse. They're so much worse. 00:16:08:09 - 00:16:11:03 Carl Because then the entitlement super comes out like. 00:16:11:10 - 00:16:12:16 Jessica That. 00:16:12:16 - 00:16:21:18 Carl You know, like. But you are right. Like, I'm the same way we used to film weddings. I've been, like, 100. Yeah. And it's the same thing. It's just like. 00:16:21:18 - 00:16:31:09 Riley This is the pull for everybody. If you get an invite to a wedding or you go to a wedding and it's not open bar, are you leaving? I'm probably leaving like I'm not. 00:16:31:09 - 00:16:32:18 Jessica Staying all night. 00:16:33:03 - 00:16:37:22 Riley Right. I'll stay for the I'll stay for the ceremony and I'll. I'll eat. 00:16:38:12 - 00:16:41:05 Carl I don't know. The last time I went to a bar that wasn't open bar. 00:16:41:05 - 00:16:44:09 Jessica I think it's super tacky not to host an open bar. Honestly. 00:16:44:23 - 00:17:00:10 Carl Or maybe not the entire bar, because, like, at the hotel I work at, not everything. Like, usually it's minimum beer and wine at the house, but you have to pay for the cartel. Since that seems to go down more, it's is more expensive. Right? To host. 00:17:00:17 - 00:17:00:22 Jessica Yeah. 00:17:01:06 - 00:17:03:09 Carl And cokes and Jack and whatever all night long I. 00:17:03:09 - 00:17:10:20 Riley Mean yeah if I can get if there's a keg and there's free beer. Sure I'll drink beer. But like if there, if I have to pay cash for every drink I'm drinking. 00:17:10:20 - 00:17:22:13 Jessica I don't To me. Yeah. If you're hosting, if you're having a wedding and you're inviting people and you are not taking care of everything for the night, I think it's super tacky, like either host or don'ts. 00:17:23:00 - 00:17:23:10 Riley Right. 00:17:23:16 - 00:17:27:23 Carl I'll say this. I don't go to weddings unless I really, really like you as a person. 00:17:28:07 - 00:17:28:13 Jessica Right? 00:17:28:17 - 00:17:43:21 Carl Right. And so I'm probably going to stay for a decent amount of time now for like in an exotic city and an exotic. I just mean, I know there's some cocktail places I want to go because it's a bit ridiculous, but I might we might dip a little early to get to those other places. Right. But I don't. 00:17:44:01 - 00:17:49:14 Carl I don't like going to weddings. Yeah. And I really like you. I barely made it to our wedding. 00:17:49:15 - 00:17:54:11 Jessica That's like, Yeah. 00:17:54:21 - 00:18:06:12 Riley He's like, Oh, let me just drink all of these barrel aged stouts that are 14% back pocket brewing. This is on you. 00:18:06:12 - 00:18:10:10 Carl You know, it's how we play the game. You know what you're getting into. 00:18:10:11 - 00:18:17:02 Riley Yeah. I let you lose in Dubuque with your best friend for multiple hours if I'm going to be in a wedding. 00:18:17:17 - 00:18:19:04 Jessica Oh, my God. The expense. 00:18:19:14 - 00:18:29:16 Riley $200 on the dress, minimum plus alterations plus plus bachelorette party plus bridal shower. The least you can have is an open bar. 00:18:29:21 - 00:18:34:03 Jessica Yeah, Yeah. That better have a really nice gin for you, right. 00:18:34:03 - 00:18:48:03 Carl But what? I go back to the story, though, I can just see this guy every time he goes. I think it's exactly what he wants. And I can just see him ordering that last. Getting that last beer like the the last frame of Breakfast Club. You know, the dude goes like this and beer, you. 00:18:48:03 - 00:18:50:16 Jessica See. 00:18:50:16 - 00:18:53:01 Carl He bust so fucking laughing. 00:18:54:07 - 00:19:06:15 Riley I can see you doing that. I can see you being you guys. You go, Hey, the is closing down. Listen, I know, I know, I know. But, like, I just need one more beer and. Hey, guys, look what I got. 00:19:06:16 - 00:19:23:14 Carl Yeah, And I would just chug it in front of everyone. I just chug that motherfucker, you know, like. And that's what it is. Like. Beers are the easy thing. So some people are. I go, man, All right. And last call the ball. And like, what we're seeing the hotel is want one more I got It's a beer so I've I got there was this moment because I'm. 00:19:23:19 - 00:19:24:13 Riley Like I have to put all. 00:19:24:13 - 00:19:40:21 Carl Right I just got to open something and someone was I don't like beer, that's all I got. Everything just put away like I already said I did last call. I'm trying to do you a favor if you don't like it. Shit. There's a bar across the street. Yeah, but I think that was a pretty good story. I can just imagine the crowd. 00:19:40:21 - 00:19:50:01 Carl I bet they're all wearing jeans with their plaid shirt tucked in their belt. Fucking buckle out, you know, And they're shit kickers on. Yep, man, you're okay. 00:19:50:01 - 00:19:55:07 Jessica I would never submitted this. They definitely painted a picture. Yeah, like I was there. Yeah. 00:19:55:23 - 00:20:15:14 Carl All right, so what we're gonna do now is we're going to give this story a rating. A rating of one through five. One means it's just an average story that someone the bartender would hear. Like, this is like, Oh, I deal with this shit on a daily basis, and five is extreme. We're like, Oh, shit, That was a pretty brutal or extraordinary story. 00:20:15:19 - 00:20:19:03 Carl So, Jessica, we'll start with you. What do you give this story? 00:20:19:05 - 00:20:26:17 Jessica I bet this is pretty common considering the circumstances. So I'm going to go like I'm going to go like a two. 00:20:27:06 - 00:20:27:20 Carl Okay. 00:20:27:20 - 00:20:30:01 Riley I've seen a lot of rowdy weddings. 00:20:30:02 - 00:20:30:12 Jessica Mm hmm. 00:20:31:01 - 00:20:38:04 Riley I have never been to a wedding where the bar shut down early either because of the patrons Either way. 00:20:38:14 - 00:20:39:07 Jessica Really? 00:20:39:08 - 00:20:45:14 Carl That's. That's the that's that's the wildcard in this whole story that we actually kind of. We glossed over and did talk. Yeah. 00:20:46:04 - 00:21:17:09 Riley Okay. Because these people, like, I come from a very small town with a very large country population. I've been to some weddings that the like the bar should have been shut down for it to be that bad, though. Mm hmm. I'm going to give this like, it's not. It's not like the craziest story, right? But like, between the lines, knowing that they shut this bar down early because of this, I'm going to give it a 3.8 holy shoe. 00:21:17:09 - 00:21:18:14 Jessica Oh, hi. 00:21:18:15 - 00:21:24:09 Riley It's because. No, I'm, you know, shut down bars and they don't shut down bars unless it's that bad. 00:21:24:22 - 00:21:45:20 Carl No, I get it. Yeah, it's I mean, I've catered bars or I was a partner catering company for quite a while. I worked or then we did the wedding photography or wedding video stuff. So I've been and then I work in a hotel. So I'm theory I've been to like 200 weddings and I've never seen the bar shut down early. 00:21:45:21 - 00:21:54:18 Riley Right. And so so for it to be that bad for the for the, the harassment of the bartenders to be that bad, this has to be terrible right. 00:21:55:01 - 00:22:15:11 Carl Payment. Yeah. I was gonna go with two point you know I'm still on 2.5 because in the bar shut down it would've been like a one to like a 1.4 let's because that's right that open you know him setting up as this basic white trash redneck wedding type thing. Right. You know, whatever. But once you see that, once you shut that bar down, that's that's a whole nother point. 00:22:15:17 - 00:22:21:14 Riley Yeah. Like, I feel like there are so many stories that we are missing from this event. 00:22:22:07 - 00:22:24:00 Jessica Yeah. Had they kept that bar open. 00:22:25:08 - 00:22:35:09 Riley If they still had an hour left, average reception is what, three or 4 hours long? 4 hours. And they shut the bar down at least a half an hour before the reception is over. 00:22:35:09 - 00:22:37:15 Jessica I've seen it. I've seen it and decided. 00:22:38:01 - 00:22:49:02 Riley To close down the bar a half an hour before the recession is over. Right. So that means that's an hour and a half before the reception ended. That means that they were only serving for an hour and a half to 2 hours, right? Well, and it got that bad. Yeah. Yes. 00:22:49:08 - 00:22:57:08 Carl Yeah. I wonder what the fuck they were drinking like Jack and Cokes. Yeah, well, was probably more like whiskey Cokes. Not even Jack look good enough for Jack. It was like. 00:22:57:17 - 00:22:57:19 Jessica He. 00:22:58:00 - 00:22:59:04 Riley Said he was drinking. Jack. 00:22:59:06 - 00:22:59:18 Carl Captain. 00:23:00:09 - 00:23:01:11 Riley He said he was drinking. Jack. 00:23:02:05 - 00:23:03:07 Carl He was the captain. 00:23:03:22 - 00:23:05:20 Riley Oh, Captain Coke. 00:23:05:20 - 00:23:12:15 Carl Jack's actually more expensive than you think it is. Jack is actually really expensive. Whiskey, Like, not really expensive, but it's more. 00:23:12:15 - 00:23:14:17 Riley Expensive than high end of the low end. 00:23:14:17 - 00:23:15:02 Carl Right? 00:23:15:04 - 00:23:15:20 Jessica Yeah, Right. 00:23:15:21 - 00:23:21:10 Carl So, yeah. So there we go. There is our first Reddit submission. By who again? 00:23:21:10 - 00:23:23:03 Riley Ice Man. Oh, man. 25 Okay. 00:23:23:10 - 00:23:23:22 Carl 25. 00:23:23:22 - 00:23:25:14 Jessica Well, well done, Ice Man. 00:23:25:19 - 00:23:29:09 Carl So, Jessica, it is your turn with your story so we can. 00:23:30:06 - 00:23:30:20 Riley Break down. 00:23:30:22 - 00:23:36:06 Carl Judge you. Yeah, well, I guess you're not the hospitality, so it's more like judge means No. 00:23:36:06 - 00:23:49:10 Jessica You know what? I'm going to. I had a different story moment. Consider our first story. I'm going to stick in the wedding world, okay? Because I actually do have quite a bit of experience there. Too much. So I hope you were. 00:23:49:11 - 00:23:49:20 Carl Correct. 00:23:50:05 - 00:24:17:17 Jessica As a photographer. Yeah, I spent about ten years doing wedding photography. Like I said, everything from like very quaint, intimate, small ceremonies to multimillion dollar weddings, like, ran the gamut. And the I'll tell you, the worst thing I ever saw as a wedding photographer between the the venue staff and the the couple getting married. So this was a wedding that was at an art museum, not a very famous big art museum, but an art museum nonetheless. 00:24:18:04 - 00:24:37:00 Jessica And the couple getting married, they were in their I don't know, I want to say they were in their like mid-to-late twenties, like 27 ish. All of their guests, their friends were friends from college. So these were people that were clearly in like sororities and fraternities together, heavy drinking crowd. And they all hadn't seen each other in years. 00:24:37:09 - 00:25:02:08 Jessica So it was very much like, hey, you know, drinking reunion, right? Well, this wedding's in museums in general have a lot of rules because you've got artwork all over. So this wedding got super, super rowdy, drinking, Everybody's over drinking being I don't know if they're being overserved or if they're just they were kind of a bratty, entitled crowd, which is a shame that the couple getting married were lovely people. 00:25:02:19 - 00:25:30:17 Jessica Their friends were assholes, I think. And it takes a lot for me to say that I'd been around a lot of weddings. They were assholes. And so it got to the point where on the dance floor is one of those nights so drunk people just kept dropping glass as they were dancing. Yes. And the catering manager finally got so fed up that he marched up to the bride while she was on the dance floor and said to her he was super bitchy. 00:25:30:23 - 00:25:52:04 Jessica He's like, Honey, you need to find a different place for your next wedding. And I told, Do you do? Holy shit. How do you say to a bride on her wedding day that she's eventually going to get divorced and she can't get married there again? 00:25:52:04 - 00:25:53:10 Carl You've been blacklisted. 00:25:53:23 - 00:26:13:15 Jessica You I like simultaneously understood where he was coming from because it was an absolute shit show. But also I felt so bad for her because I was just a horrible thing to say to somebody like, Right, Yeah. She was crying. Her father about it was like a scene. 00:26:13:17 - 00:26:15:05 Carl Yeah. Anything else? That's it. 00:26:15:22 - 00:26:33:15 Jessica That's So that is actually a wedding where they did shut down the bar early. Okay, I've had a few of those. Wow. I've seen this. It might be me. And when I was a photographer, I'd be out there dancing on the floor. That was a good time. All right. Yeah, they did. That was towards the end of the night. 00:26:33:15 - 00:26:49:06 Jessica But they definitely shut the bar down early. And it was just like a lot of drama at the end of the night. I will say that couple in the year says this is a long time ago. That wedding was probably almost ten years ago. They're divorced, it would seem that her second wedding was not there. 00:26:49:13 - 00:27:00:15 Carl I mean, the balls on that employee because, I mean, I get it right. Like we've all been in those situation where you're just pushed to the brink of like saying, fuck you, you were done. And that's what you basically said to her, right? 00:27:00:15 - 00:27:22:09 Jessica Yeah, maybe. But at a wedding that was pretty pricey. Like they paid a lot of money for that wedding. Not that that should matter, but like, this was it was an expensive wedding in a museum. The bride and groom themselves weren't the problem. Their guests were. But he told that bride off like in her face. That's was awful. 00:27:23:06 - 00:27:24:00 Carl But she was. 00:27:24:12 - 00:27:25:03 Jessica Aggressive. 00:27:25:06 - 00:27:39:12 Carl When I worked at the catering business and we did a lot of weddings. And even when we did the wedding photographer video stuff, you really go up to the guests, you go up to the the couple who's you when you go to the people that paid you? 00:27:39:23 - 00:27:51:05 Riley Yeah. Like if you go because I mean, there is it's implied that they are to control their guests, at least to some degree. But like you don't say you're next wedding. What the hell? 00:27:51:19 - 00:27:59:08 Carl So okay, so I said that I've said that to a couple of one time when we were doing the wedding photographer video. 00:27:59:08 - 00:28:00:18 Riley So what? 00:28:00:23 - 00:28:18:08 Carl Yeah, but I was completely joking. And so at the end of the night, at the end of the night, you know, we're saying goodbye to them and, you know, and they're like, You guys did such a good job, blah, blah, blah. And like, all right, cool. Thanks. You know? And I go, Hey, the next time you guys book us, I give you 50% off your package. 00:28:18:17 - 00:28:21:21 Jessica Oh, that's so fucked up. 00:28:21:21 - 00:28:24:08 Carl And the guy, he got it instantaneous. 00:28:24:10 - 00:28:25:14 Riley He's like, Oh, he started laughing. 00:28:25:14 - 00:28:45:07 Carl He start laughing. It's what goes in. And the wife goes, Oh, that's awesome. 50% off, You know, like, thank you. And he looks at he goes, he's saying, For when we get divorced and we get married again, he's going to give us half of the and she's like, Oh, and then I'm oh, I'm sorry. I you know, I knew I could say that joke to this couple. 00:28:45:07 - 00:28:46:23 Carl Right. You know, I knew like. 00:28:47:10 - 00:28:49:07 Jessica Right there in the room. 00:28:49:10 - 00:28:53:17 Carl Yeah, right. You know, and it was it was just funny. So. Absolutely. 00:28:53:21 - 00:28:59:00 Riley Yeah. But, like, that's completely different than the situation. Well, right. And he's up. 00:28:59:05 - 00:29:10:18 Jessica I mean, like, marched up to her, like, neck roll and everything, right? Super sassy. Yeah, he was. Oh, yeah. Had I not witnessed it, I would not have believed it. Oh, my gosh. 00:29:10:18 - 00:29:16:18 Carl I have pictures of him going up there and like, here's your main photo of him, like finger in the air I had. 00:29:16:18 - 00:29:36:10 Jessica And I was like, watching it happen, you know, because, like, my eyes were on her all night, my job and like, I watched it happen. I watched this whole interaction go down. And then he, like, stormed away from her and she just sort of turned at me and like with these wide eyes and just tears in sports, I was like, And then her dad, like, sailed things. 00:29:36:10 - 00:29:46:03 Jessica I think he saw it happen to. Right. So for this day, I still feel bad for her. Like that wedding did need to be shut down, but oh, man. 00:29:46:04 - 00:29:49:23 Riley Just on the wedding. Don't shut down her day right? 00:29:49:23 - 00:29:52:02 Jessica Yeah. Yeah, it was rough. 00:29:52:07 - 00:30:03:03 Riley I I'm not one to really, like, complain if somebody, like, messes with me or, like, something's wrong, but, like, I would be, I would be in for a refund. 00:30:03:12 - 00:30:04:14 Jessica STAFF Absolutely. 00:30:04:14 - 00:30:13:18 Riley The next day I would be raising a stink with, with whoever because that's that's not acceptable. No shape or form. 00:30:14:04 - 00:30:16:08 Jessica No, no diplomacy whatsoever. 00:30:16:10 - 00:30:21:05 Carl But like, did you get warnings throughout the night or is this like it was this cold shoulder right into it? You know, I'm saying. 00:30:21:05 - 00:30:23:04 Riley Like they had gotten warnings, but like. 00:30:23:04 - 00:30:36:14 Jessica Yeah, because like staff had been out there with like I mean, I'm not kidding when I say there was like broken glass several times around. So, you know, staff would come out with, like, brooms and because, you know, you don't want people to get cut or glass flying and says, ah. 00:30:36:23 - 00:30:54:12 Carl See that was sucks because that those hiring waiting didn't want plastics plastics tacky but we have you plastic like once like two glasses got broke. We switched all the plastic. Right. And some of you guys keep breaking glass like it's you guys can't handle it anymore. You get the kitty cups with the fucking nipples on every fucker. 00:30:54:12 - 00:30:59:00 Riley But like, rather than go up to her and insult her in a manner. 00:30:59:10 - 00:31:01:16 Jessica So you're inside? Yeah. 00:31:02:03 - 00:31:03:13 Riley Go down the bar. 00:31:03:16 - 00:31:07:03 Carl Go to that room, go to the bathroom. He can handle, like. 00:31:07:09 - 00:31:09:15 Jessica For the parents who were paying. Right. 00:31:09:15 - 00:31:21:18 Riley Before you get to that point, before you get to that level of frustration, check yourself. Take a deep breath. Whew. Sigh for a little bit and then handle it in a manner that's appropriate. 00:31:22:02 - 00:31:25:09 Carl Yes. As he's no longer a managing manager at a catering company. 00:31:25:09 - 00:31:26:07 Riley Oh, for sure. 00:31:26:21 - 00:31:30:15 Jessica I would hope not. Yeah. I mean, really, I have never. I've seen a lot. 00:31:30:17 - 00:31:43:15 Carl Maybe. Maybe he's learned his lesson and, you know, maybe he just, you know, we all have that moment where you just you just see red and you you don't even care where you're at, what situation you're around. You just like, fuck this. 00:31:43:15 - 00:31:55:00 Riley You have those moments a lot. I feel like I'm capable of keeping myself in check because you have to be profession. Mm. Yeah. 00:31:55:20 - 00:32:00:05 Jessica What's the perfect response? Hmm. 00:32:01:01 - 00:32:03:12 Carl Okay, So, Riley, what do we give the story? 00:32:03:15 - 00:32:10:01 Riley I mean, a rowdy wedding is, again, common, but like that statement four point to you. 00:32:10:16 - 00:32:18:16 Carl I'm going to go to point five again because I the rowdy wedding is, again, a common thing and people getting out of line. It's a 1.5, 1.8. 00:32:18:17 - 00:32:21:16 Riley But that person being that vicious. Right. So. 00:32:22:17 - 00:32:24:03 Jessica Yeah, rowdy wedding. Okay. 00:32:24:05 - 00:32:26:21 Carl Okay. I'll do 2.888. 00:32:27:08 - 00:32:33:14 Jessica Eight oh, wow. We're getting down to tenths now. 100, 103 hundred. 00:32:35:05 - 00:32:37:23 Carl What do you give your own story would? I mean, you were there. 00:32:38:01 - 00:32:47:07 Jessica And to me, it's the worst thing I ever witnessed. But I know there are worse. Right? So I'm going to. I'm going to go for four. 00:32:47:09 - 00:32:47:14 Carl Okay? 00:32:47:17 - 00:32:51:04 Jessica I'm going. Whole numbers, none of this. I'm not doing tens or hundreds. 00:32:53:09 - 00:33:07:00 Carl Of those on your site. That's fine, right? Because, you know, you're probably on a guest on it again at some point. But like, when we keep doing this, you know, after a year or two, we need things to, like start like nit picking, right? And start defining.
