I'm not saying that the Apple Podcast app is terrible, I really want it to be great. But I have some issues with it that I've mentioned before.
But why the ratings for it are suddenly so great is because we are mostly responsible for it as podcasters. We are asking our listeners to do the wrong thing with the best of intentions.
