आत्मश्लाघा नैव श्रेयसे

कदाचित् कबीरपुत्रः कमालः गङ्गातटे कञ्चित् श्वेतकुष्ठरोगेण पीडितम् आत्महत्यार्थम् उद्युक्तं च पुरुषम् अपश्यत् । सः श्रेष्ठिनः शिरसि स्वहस्तं संस्थाप्य रामनाम जपित्वा गङ्गायां निमज्जितुम् अवदत् । सः श्रेष्ठी यदा बहिः आगतवान् तदा श्वेतकुष्ठः न्यूनतरः जातः । गृहमागत्य प्रवृत्तं सर्वम् उक्त्वा 'अहं सिद्धिं प्राप्तवान्' इति कमालः यदा अकथयत् तदा कबीरः एतस्य अहङ्कारः कथमपि निवारणीयः इति विचिन्त्य तुलसीदासाय एकं पत्रं विलिख्य पुत्रेण सह प्रेषितवान् । पत्रं पठित्वा तुलसीदासः नगरे श्वेतकुष्ठरोगेण पीडितान् सर्वान् अत्र आहूय जलपूर्णे कुम्भे रामनाम लिखित्वा कानिचन तुलसीपत्राणि प्रक्षिप्य सर्वेषां रोगग्रस्तानाम् उपरि जलं सेचितवान् । झटिति सर्वे रोगमुक्ताः जाताः । एतत् दृष्ट्वा कमालः क्षमाम् अयाचत ।

One day, Kabir’s son Kamal saw a leprosy-stricken man preparing to end his life by the Ganges. Kamal placed his hand on the man's head, chanted Lord Rama’s name, and asked him to immerse himself in the river. Upon emerging, the man found his leprosy had diminished. Feeling accomplished, Kamal declared his success. Sensing his son's pride, Kabir sought to humble him and sent a letter to Tulsidas. Tulsidas gathered all the leprosy-afflicted people in the city, wrote Rama’s name on a pot filled with water, added sacred basil leaves, and sprinkled the water over them. Instantly, they were cured. Witnessing this, Kamal realized his mistake and sought forgiveness.
