This is the evening buzz presented by Mikhail Atiyah. Seems the galaxy far far away is getting ever more bigger as the star wars celebration showcase event has, gone full hyperspace once again with some major major announcements, a big upcoming star wars projects that are in the works, and it's aiming straight for the big screen, most of them at least. After years of mostly hanging out on Disney plus, with shows like The Mandalorian, Andor, and Asuka, The franchise is gearing up to basically, bring back some serious theatrical comeback. And twenty twenty five Star Wars celebration in Tokyo just dropped some major announcements. So let's kind of break it down because it's a lot.
Speaker 1:Starting off with the big the first big hype from the event is Star Wars Starfighter. This is gonna be a brand new film starring Ryan Gosling of all people. Imagine. And directed by Sean Levy, the guy who's been making, waves with Deadpool and Wolverine. It's landing in theaters on 05/28/2027 conveniently in time for memorial day weekend.
Speaker 1:This one's, gonna be set five years after the events of the rise of the skywalker putting us into relatively territory in the timeline, technically a sequel, which is very rare these days. Ryan Gosling plays a totally new character. No skywalker bloodline baggage here as well. And while they're keeping the plot details under wraps for now, production kicks off this fall. And, Gosling is, shared that, you know, he shared some interesting little pics of his childhood where he had a lot of, like, these, you know, Star Wars memorabilia, even like a Star Wars bedsheet, you know, after he landed the role.
Speaker 1:Just kinda show people that he's also been a Star Wars fan since he was a kid. I'm actually excited for this one. I mean, because I love I love Ryan Gosling in in most of his movies. I think he's a great actor. So to put him in a Star Wars setting, I wonder how that's really gonna pay off.
Speaker 1:And he he does work in a sci fi setting as well, like, for example, Blade Runner. So let's see. All the best. But then there's still little bit more happening alongside Star Wars Starfighter. Lucasfilm has confirmed that there's gonna be six other Star Wars films that are in active development.
Speaker 1:So technically, two major trilogies, each bringing a different flavor to the saga. There's, of course, still the Rey centric movie that's gonna be coming out very soon with Daisy Ridley returning to lead what looks like to be the beginning of a new Jedi order. So that's gonna be, I think, its own trilogy. There's also James Mangold's, taking things way back with Dawn of the Jedi, a story that's set at the origin of the force itself. So we got ourselves a prequel.
Speaker 1:Taika Waititi, to be honest, I mean, I've I've heard about this for a very long time. It's been years. I'm surprised that they're saying, yeah, it's he's still going to be making his own Star Wars movie. It's it's gonna be his own little thing. And then there is Simon Kenberg's mystery trilogy rumored to be the next major arc, potentially episodes, 10 through episode third episode 12 that are still in the works.
Speaker 1:So we got the Ray Skywalker trilogy, then we got this another I would I'd say this is gonna be the official Canyon trilogy that's gonna move things forward. And then, of course, you have the Mandalorian and Gragu movie that's been confirmed for quite some time, but it's gonna be coming out very, very soon. But, a lot of projects in the works. And just in case you thought Disney plus was being left behind in all of this, there's going to be an animated series, called Star Wars Maul Shadow Lord, bringing the fan favorite Sith back in 2026. Sam Sam Whitmore returns to voice Darth Maul who's shown in the teaser busting a force sensitive a force sensitive character out of prison and offering to train her in his lovely violent ways.
Speaker 1:It's set after the Clone Wars with Mole looking to rebuild his criminal empire on a world untouched by the empire. According to early footage, it's gonna be dark, it's gonna be gritty, and full of Maul's signature lightsaber chaos. So to sum it up, I gotta say this one has been perhaps one of the better Star Wars showcase in terms of announcements, some really big news. I hope that this is finally because I I one thing I've been complaining about for quite some time with the Star Wars franchise, it felt like for many years now, things haven't moved forward. We've had spin offs, and we've had all these Disney shows that kinda have been going back, but there has been no project that's been going forward, you know, past the Rise of Skywalker.
Speaker 1:But to hear that there's two major trilogies happening, we got that Ryan Gosling sequel. We got, also a few other in in being cooked in the in the in the the oven. Clearly, they're going they're going all in once again, not just revisiting the past, but finally building a bold new future for the galaxy far far away. But I am still gonna have my doubts. Disney has treated the Star Wars franchise, in a very controversial manner to a point that I I know that they I know they know that they've alienated this fan base tremendously.
Speaker 1:They've just not done a great job with the recent spin offs and just the way they've treated this this IP for quite some time. So there is there there is excitement, but it's also a proving ground for Disney because I'm telling you that, like, I I I feel at any point, this is gonna be the final straw for the for a franchise like Star Wars. No matter how big and popular it is, if you don't if you don't give what the fans want, then what's the point? You know? Star Wars is an it's an epic saga.
Speaker 1:It should feel epic. It should look epic. It shouldn't feel mundane. But do let me know what you think and share your thoughts and opinion. Anything you're excited for?
Speaker 1:I'm excited for that new trilogy that's being worked on, not the Ray Skywalker one. That that's fine. I'm talking about the the other one that's going to continue the episodic movies. So with that being said, we'll have to see. I'm excited, but I am cautious.
Speaker 1:We're keeping our doubts just because it's Disney. Gotta be careful with this stuff. But do again, share your thoughts and opinion. Let me know what has been your favorite announcement from the Star Wars celebration. We're gonna take a short break.
Speaker 1:We'll be right back with more news and highlights from the world of entertainment. Stay tuned. Pulse 95. Strange times in the gaming space, but even though it's strange, it's a good kind of strange because this whole year, everybody's been talking about these this rumored oblivion remastered game that's been in the works and that is gonna be shadow dropping very soon. The fact that there's no official announcement or statement from Bethesda or Microsoft makes it even more strange, to be honest.
Speaker 1:And now even more strange than that, apparently, the rumored studio that's working on this game has accidentally leaked some footage on their official website. This is Virtuous Studios. Some loose pages had some imagery of the oblivion remastered, and then they took it off immediately. But, of course, people got snippets. They took some screenshots, put it up online.
Speaker 1:It's already too late. It's it's a big dead giveaway. Yes. There is an elder scrolls for oblivion remastered coming out very soon. And it just feels like if there was ever any marketing momentum, it's kind of thrown out the window, to be honest.
Speaker 1:So if they have a marketing team, you might as well just fire them because there's no point. Despite this, I think there's a lot of hype for this Oblivion remastered simply because it's been a very long time since we've had an elder scrolls game. You know, Bethesda did announce almost five years ago that they are working on an elder scroll six, and it's gonna be perhaps another five years before we hear anything about it. But this seems to be like a middle ground, a filler, something that could fill the void for many fans out there who want more elder scrolls RPG. And to be honest, this time, not only are we gonna get the elder scrolls for oblivion remastered, we're also gonna be getting the official modded version called sky oblivion.
Speaker 1:This has been a passion project for almost a decade, I think even longer, which basically takes oblivion and, overhauls it completely through into the Skyrim, engine, hence why it's called Skyblivion. So we're really getting two oblivion games, one from an official studio and and another from a mod team. So pretty crazy, especially for this for this year in terms of gaming. And honestly, despite these leaks teasing the possible changes for what's gonna happen, it's all very exciting news. And if anything, now we have two official oblivion games, and people are obviously gonna do the huge dedicated documentaries and and kinda, like, comparison videos looking at the difference between the modded you know, the mod team version and the official studio version and see how much of those two are gonna be different in a lot of ways graphically, gameplay wise, in terms of maybe even narrative if they're gonna change a few things.
Speaker 1:But, while while the the official remaster is flashy mysterious, the modding community, the modding community's answer to it, which is a sky oblivion, is nothing honestly short of legendary in its own right because, again, this has been a passion project for thirteen years in development, and it's finally launching in 2025. So the timing of it all is just absolutely surreal. Sky Bolivian apparently is gonna be adding new, new quests. It's gonna have reimagined cities, custom music. It's gonna have redesigned lock picking system and a full UI revamp.
Speaker 1:So that already is gonna be very different than perhaps what the remaster is doing. When you think of a remaster, you try to keep to the original, you know, to the original look and feel of the game, but giving it the necessary, you know, revamp and enhancements that it needs. So I think these new games, even though technically they're the same game, they're gonna be very different in a lot of ways, and that's perhaps good. You know, interestingly, the developers behind Sky Bolivian don't seem to be bitter about it at all, especially, in fact, project leads, try to pronounce his name. Rebel's eyes.
Speaker 1:It took to social media calling it a win win for fans, adding that their, that that their own mod was always a passion project and that they have nothing but love for the remaster team. That's kind of honestly pretty wholesome. And it makes me wonder if Bethesda could have maybe done this a little bit differently. I mean, if they knew that there was a mod team working on Skyblivion, why not just hire that team and make how have them make the remaster? Maybe they were approached about it.
Speaker 1:I don't know. But it just feels, you know, two games is is a great thing, but it could feel excessive in a sense. I don't think I'm gonna be able to play two of them. I'm gonna have to pick and choose, honestly. Most likely, I might play the official version, and then I will look into a comparison videos for Sky Oblivion, and we'll see.
Speaker 1:But you guys let me know which Oblivion game are you going to play? Have you ever played the original Oblivion? Are you a fan of Skyrim and the Elder Scrolls franchise? So let me know. I'd love to hear your personal opinions and thoughts on the matter.
Speaker 1:We're gonna take a short break. We'll be right back with more news and highlights from the world of entertainment. Stay tuned. Pulse 95. Pulse 90 quite some time, not only myself, but many people in the industry have just said the console wars is not really a thing anymore.
Speaker 1:It's been now, I believe, a few years of just kind of having this epiphany, this realization that, yeah, you know, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, all versus each other for, you know, selling as many consoles. I don't think it's a I don't think it's a thing anymore. You know, Microsoft is kind of doing its own thing now by basically, being all about accessibility and outreach, trying to put their games on all platforms. Nintendo, of course, still in its own little bubble doesn't really wanna compete, doesn't wanna put the best hardware out there. They're all about the best games and the most iconic franchises and kinda capitalizing on that.
Speaker 1:PlayStation is the only one who's really doing exclusivity as its mark in as its big, pull, but even they had to concede and and and start releasing, a good chunk of their IPs and franchises to the PC. It's not been the most smoothest ride for them because every time they port to PC, the launches are either disastrous or still very bumpy. And, yeah, the console war, the whole vibe feels like it's basically dead. You know? This new era of gaming is way more of, hey, let's just all let's just let's just release our games wherever we need to try to, sell as many copies no matter the platform.
Speaker 1:Exclusivity is a is a second thought at this point. And Phil spent is Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, is actually out there making sure that x Xbox and Nintendo are gonna be best buds because in a new interview with Variety, the Xbox had confirmed that Xbox games will be coming to Nintendo's upcoming Switch two. And not just little indies, of course, they're talking about some of the bigger, IPs out there. Spencer didn't even, drop any specific titles, but considering games like grounded and have already found home on the original Switch, and rumors are swirling that future. The idea of, you know, like Halo's master chief gunning down the covenant on a Nintendo handheld, it's pretty wild, but apparently not impossible because the impression that Microsoft and Xbox has been giving is not exclusivity.
Speaker 1:It's all about for them accessibility and outreach. They want to put their games on many platforms, on many services, and many devices as much as possible. For them, it's no longer about selling as many consoles. For them is trying to make their service, viable, reliable, and lucrative. Hence why they got that Game Pass service, which even prompted PlayStation to revamp their PS Plus tier list.
Speaker 1:And I feel at this point that PlayStation should perhaps take some notes and realize that, you know, I think that consoles slowly are I'm not saying that it's the end, but we're we're living in an age where streaming is a big thing, live service is a big thing, and you see Xbox kind of going down more of the publisher routes, that PlayStation should perhaps pivot towards that if they want to survive in this industry, you know. Of course, right now, they dominate in terms of console sales, every month. And even though they did bring up the prices to the PS five, just recently in a in a big announcement, I don't know how long this is gonna be the case. You know, there's always been this theory and discussion I hear from, from, you know, video game journalists, through podcasts, that gaming consoles could become obsolete a decade from now. I think what's gonna happen is everything is gonna turn into a service.
Speaker 1:If you wanna play on the Xbox, you can just, you know, stream it on your smart TV, and you don't need to have an Xbox console. I'm not sure if it's gonna be the same for PlayStation or Nintendo, but we'll see. You know, Xbox at the moment isn't racing to keep up. They're kinda doing their own thing, and that includes kind of playing nice and making sure that, some of their IPs currently are multi platform and slowly if they ever have a big IP come out, they have like a timed exclusive and then it finally comes out on other platforms. Good example is Indiana Jones and the Golden Circle, which came out I believe in December and then made its now it's making its way to PlayStation very soon.
Speaker 1:It's kind of surreal how far things have come. You know, ten years ago, the idea of Xbox, and Nintendo kind of openly collaborating would have seemed impossible, but now they're kind of tag teaming on major releases. The only one that's really holding out here is Nintendo. They're the one who are just they refused to put any of their IPs, any of their titles on other platforms. It's always like it's their it's their rules, it's their game, you have to play it their way, there is no other option.
Speaker 1:But it's nice to see Phil Spencer continuing his slow, you know, this this the slow, transformation, for the Xbox ecosystem. All about accessibility, all about outreach, and making sure that you can kinda go all in and play anywhere you like, whether through, you know, whether through your PlayStation, whether through your PC, whether Xbox, and now potentially on the Nintendo. Take some notes PlayStation and Nintendo. Put some of your IPs out into other platforms, please. You don't have to be they're they're perhaps the most exclusively strict publisher right now, and, it can feel a bit frustrating.
Speaker 1:But I get why they do it because that's how that's how that's how they're able to capitalize on their, on their ecosystem as much as possible. Imagine if Pokemon came out on PC or Super Mario or Zelda. I'm telling you, it's gonna it's gonna be a crazy day. It could happen. Not anytime soon, but perhaps sometime in our lifetime.
Speaker 1:Do share your thoughts and opinion. Let me know what you think. And that pretty much wraps it up for the evening buzz.
